In 1974, Tony moved to Nova Scotia, where he continued to be very involved in the sport of soccer. Tony was Director of Coaching for Soccer NS for a number of years. His lifelong love of soccer and the "Stoke City" football club, was always at the forefront and he was a constant fixture on the soccer fields, playing, coaching and refereeing both school and adult teams. He was always willing to volunteer anytime he was asked. In terms of employment, Tony was fortunate enough to have secured a job at the Sunset Beverage Room in Digby for a number of years, after a short stint with the Mountain Gap Inn, and after moving to Kentville in 1985, he managed The Kings Arms Pub for a period of 10 years. While in Kentville, Tony was the Sports Facility Manager for 10 years and he was kept very busy at the rink, the soccer fields and the parks. In addition he enjoyed his role of Kentville Town Councillor for eight years. Finally, Tony was a school bus driver for Stock Transportation in the Kings County School Board district for eight years, before retiring. He is survived by his son, Neal (Laura), grandson, Sean (Lilly), and his great grandchildren, Adalynn and Aubree. • MacIntyre, Duncan Brian

Halifax, NS December 14, 2024 Duncan MacIntyre, 76, of Greenfield, loving husband and father of five, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Saturday, December 14, 2024, due to heart-related complications. Duncan was born and raised on Cape Breton Island and moved to Halifax as an adult. He worked various jobs that brought him throughout the US and western Canada before returning to Nova Scotia and earning a Bachelor of Education degree from Mount Saint Vincent University. While working briefly as a substitute teacher in Halifax, he met Noel Lewis at his sister Rachel’s wedding. In 1978 Noel and Duncan were married. Not long after starting a career with Canada Post, Duncan accepted a transfer to the Annapolis Valley where he and Noel raised their family. A devoted husband and father, he immersed himself with great love in family life, enjoying time with his wife and five children, and eventually his nine grandchildren. He had a great passion for the outdoors and much of the family time was spent hiking local trails where Duncan enthusiastically shared his knowledge of plant and animal life with his children. Being very fond of swimming as early and as late in the year as he could, the family regularly frequented Nova Scotia’s many beaches. Throughout his life he took up a wide range of interests and hobbies. He wrote his own science fiction stories. He enjoyed the art of painting, both actively and passively, being particularly fond of the works of Dali and Monet. He enjoyed music and played the guitar and fiddle. He loved to go on early morning fishing trips and late evening stargazing excursions. In the latter part of his life, he took a strong interest in photography and bird watching. The day before his death he sat at the window helping two of his younger grandchildren identify some of the many well-fed birds. First and foremost, Duncan was a man of faith. With great zeal, he studied and defended the Catholic faith over the course of his life and was actively involved in the Church for many years. He had a strong devotion to the Blessed Mother and always emphasized a family life centered on Christ. Becoming more interior as he reached old age, he committed a great deal of his time to Our Lord in prayer. She would spend hours walking the shore searching for sea glass — each piece beautiful and unique but some more special than others. Some of the pieces she found were even award winning! With these individual treasures, Sheila created art that touched the hearts of everyone around her. Whether it was a piece of framed art, a Christmas decoration or a unique gift for a special occasion, her crafts told a story of love and creativity for anyone lucky enough to receive one.
