CAMPBELL, Marlene Joyce

Dartmouth, NS

August 3, 1943 - April 5, 2024

Our loving wife, mother and nanny, Marlene Joyce Campbell of Dartmouth passed away peacefully on Friday April 5th, 2024 in the Palliative Care unit at the Dartmouth General Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Kentville, Nova Scotia on August 3rd,1943 to Ethyl (Henry) and Lloyd Greene, she was the second of six children. Marlene's passion to care for others led her to choose a career in nursing, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1964 where she started her career in Psychiatric Nursing at the Nova Scotia Hospital. In 1964, she became engaged to David William Campbell of Halifax. A year later they were married in Dartmouth.

While a career was important to Marlene, having a family became her priority. She had a son Christopher David and a daughter Lesley Ann. After she paused her career to raise her children she returned to the workforce as a Human Resource Manager with Sears Canada for 15 years, retiring in 1999.

For much of her life, Marlene's passion was knitting and quilting. Working with her sisters, she made many quilts for family and charities over the years. Above all she had a true gift to listen, understand and be there for her family whenever needed.

Marlene was predeceased by her parents Ethyl (Henry) and Lloyd Greene, her sisters Karen King, Leah Trider and Ellen Pohlmann.

She is survived by her husband David Campbell, son Christopher (Isabelle) Campbell, daughter Lesley (Michael) Manuel, as well as her beloved grandchildren Madison, Stone, Peter and Joshua, great-granddaughter Josephine, her sister Patricia Colter, brother Lloyd (Heather) Greene and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Marlene's team of doctors, nurses and support staff, namely, Dr. Morzycki, Dr. Moeller, Dr. Lise and Dr. Flynn, Thea, Mitch, Jenna, Sarah, Lisa and Cathy who all went above and beyond to bring mom comfort throughout her cancer journey, particularly in her final days/weeks.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society.

A private family interment will be held at a later date.
