Alan William MacDougall, 1948 – 2024. Alan passed away peacefully in Palliative Care at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, on Monday, February 5 on his 75 th birthday with his wife by his side after a 3 year battle with dementia.
Alan was born on February 5, 1948 in New Glasgow to Carl and Viola (MacMillan) MacDougall of Trenton. Alan was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother, Charles Ellis, and chosen brother, Wayne "Oscar" Hawboldt. Alan grew up in Trenton and began his working career at Hawker Sidley and retired from Trenton Works in 2002. He was an avid sportsman, inducted into the Pictou County Sports Heritage Hall of Fame on two occasions. He was an Associate member of the Royal Canadian Legion #29, Trenton.
He is survived by his loving wife, caregiver and best friend, Norma (Spears); his brother, Jim (Terri), of New Glasgow, and their daughter, Amanda, of Trenton; his sister, Karen (Jude) Mill, and their sons, David and Paul, of Moncton, NB; his chosen brothers, Bob (Sharon) and Burton (Rhonda) Hawboldt; chosen sister, Anne Gerrior (Rob); as well as lifelong friends, Renie Currie, Linda Stephenson and his BLF’s, Jacob and Kaitlyn Pentz. He will be greatly missed by the Spears family.
At Alan’s request, cremation will take place and there will be no visitation or funeral service.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit c/o Aberdeen Health Foundation. Arrangements are under the direction of R.H. Porter Funeral Home, Trenton.
