- Smith, Patsy Anthony
Sydney, NS December 8, 2024 Patsy Anthony Smith, 89, passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sunday, December 8, 2024. Born in Sydney, Patsy was the son of the late Pasquale and Theresa (Massimello) Spinazzola. Patsy Smith was born under the name Pasquale Anthony Spinazzola in 1935, but as his parents were immigrants to Canada, they had changed his name to Patsy Anthony Smith. Patsy was a longtime member of the Sydney Lions Club and also a member and past president of the Cape Breton Italian Association. He was a self-made businessman who developed many building lots in the city of Sydney. In 1965, Patsy started and ran the Capri Club for over 20 years in Sydney; he was very proud of this accomplishment. On his off time from real estate and his nightclub businesses, he spent countless hours on the Murray Road in North River where he fished, hunted, and tested his homemade Italian wines while enjoying the peace and solitude of country life. In the 90’s, Pasty and his wife, Marilyn, headed for the sun and spent their winters in Sarasota, Florida, where they were both very active at the South Winds Mobile Park for over 28 years. In Florida, Patsy spent many hours sitting in the sun wood carving at which he soon became very accomplished. Patsy and Marilyn moved their family from his family home on Alexandra Street in Sydney to a beautiful Italian built home on Beaumont Avenue in Sydney River, and as time passed, they soon realized that it would be easier for them to move to a single level duplex, so they packed up and moved to Weidner Drive in Sydney River in 2024 where dad enjoyed his last days. Patsy passed away peacefully with his caring wife Marilyn at his side as he took his last breath. Patsy is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Campbell) of 56 years; son, Angelo Spinazzola; daughter, Vivian (Smook); sister, Theresa (Ferguson); granddaughter, Anais Cammaert-Spinazzola, and countless nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Gino, Pino, Orlando, Perino (aka Pordeno); son, Carlo; sisters, Mary (Chicorelli), Rita (Weatherbee), Ramona (Landry), Netta (MacIsaac), and Angelina (Degaust). Donation may be made to Loaves and Fishes https://loavesandfishescb.com/donate/ or charity of your choice. A Special THANK YOU goes out to his longtime friend, Dr. Greg Myatt and Janice (aka Jannette), as well as Laura and Shannon from Dr Myatt’s office. The family would also like to thank the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for their compassion and excellent quality of care given to Patsy.

- Robertson, Bruce Alexander
Wolfville, NS June 8, 1952 - December 5, 2024 Bruce Alexander Robertson, 72, of Wolfville, formerly of Bedford, passed away on December 5, 2024, grateful for having enjoyed a life very rich in experience and good fortune. Born June 8, 1952 and raised in Truro, NS, Bruce was the son of Alexander "Sandy" Wishart and Thelma Joan (Chew) Robertson. The eldest of four siblings, he enjoyed a very outgoing and adventurous youth that included earning Scouting’s highest honour, the Queen’s Scout award; representing Canada internationally at the 1967 Boy Scout World Jamboree; and military training as a member of the North Nova Scotia Highlanders. From his early 20s to late 40s, Bruce had an accomplished career in media and public relations. After several years as a reporter/photographer for a daily newspaper (New Glasgow) he moved on to senior communications management positions with a number of organizations including Blue Cross (Moncton), Alberta Power (Edmonton), Etobicoke Hydro (Toronto) and the Canadian Real Estate Association (Ottawa). He also served a variety of other organizations as a consultant and strategic planning facilitator. During that era of his life, he was active in several chapters of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), including serving as President of the Atlantic Canada Chapter and having his professional accomplishments recognized nationally through annual industry awards of excellence in several categories. Bruce’s life underwent a monumental shift at the start of the new Millenium, when he returned to Nova Scotia and worked for a year as managing editor of several regional magazines based in Liverpool, NS. That’s when he met the love of his life and true soul mate Terry Sheehy, who had recently established an acupuncture clinic and natural therapy practice in Bedford. Bruce soon joined her, both in Bedford and in clinic practice. He trained and became proficient at computerized bio-energy testing, and conducted comprehensive bio-energy screening for thousands of patients over the next 15 years. At the same time, the couple enjoyed a very satisfying personal life, filled with joy from their frequent travels abroad, active outdoor life including cottage living in summer, beloved cat companions, circle of long-time friends, and the arrival of four grandchildren. The pandemic shutdown of 2020 brought about Bruce’s retirement from patient testing, but provided the opportunity for Terry and Bruce to relocate to Wolfville where they continued to enjoy a fulfilling personal and work life in his final years. Bruce is survived by his loving wife, Teresa "Terry" Georgene Sheehy; sister, Brenda Joan Robertson (Wendy Bedingfield), Wolfville; brother, Brian Wishart Robertson (Sumitra Dutt), Abbotsford, BC; niece and nephews, Manjulika, Khirode and Tushar Robertson, Abbotsford, BC; stepsons, Art James (Mandy), Goderich, ON; Ian James (Ashley), Fredericton, NB; Taylor James, Halifax; step-grandchildren, Sadie and Zev James, Goderich, ON and Henry and Ben James, Fredericton, NB. - MacDougall, Kenneth Raymond
Sydney, NS December 5, 2024 It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of Kenneth Raymond MacDougall, announce his sudden passing on December 5, 2024, at the age of 66. Kenny was born and grew up in the Shipyard area of Sydney, but was currently residing in Fort McMurray, AB, to be close to his children and grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Ray and Edna (Farquhar) MacDougall. Kenny was employed at Sydney Steel and later worked as a Heavy Equipment operator in Alberta. Since childhood, he was involved with race horses and was an active member of the Horse Men’s Association in Cape Breton. He enjoyed spending time at the track watching his horse’s race, as well as hanging around the barn catching up with his friends. Old Home Week was always a much-anticipated event to attend every year, as he looked forward to the time he would catch up with old friends and spend time doing what he loved. Kenny was an outgoing, social person who loved spending time with his friends and family. Family was always an important part of Kenny’s life. He always said he was blessed to see his grandchildren born and in the recent years, spent ample time with them, watching them grow. He is survived by his loving wife and partner of 43 years, Anne (Taylor) MacDougall, as well as his son, Keith (Jenny Sutherland) MacDougall and daughter, Janine (Rod) Morrison, along with his most cherished possessions, Sloane, Isla, Finlay (Keith and Jenny MacDougall) and Madelyn, Sophie (Janine and Rod Morrison). Kenny is also survived by his loving sister, Eleanor MacDougall (Al Wight). Although he resided in Alberta, Cape Breton was always his home. He loved the beauty and everything that the island offered. Fall drives around the Cabot Trail with Anne were one of the things he always looked forward to. In the summer, he enjoyed taking in a round of golf with his son, Keith and the boys, and always looked forward to lobster season. Throughout the years, he enjoyed traveling (to anywhere warm) with his family, while cruises held some special memories. As per Kenny’s wishes, we will not be conducting a visitation or funeral. However, a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date as determined by his family. And when this is all over We’ll knock on our friend’s doors And go to every party And say “I love you” more. And when this is all over Through bad, we will see the good Because whenever we are together We’ll appreciate it, as we should. And when this is all over And we are no longer in this pain We’ll know to never take for granted Those little things again.

Dad, at a very young age, began working in the woods with his father cutting wood with a two-person crosscut saw. He left school at a young age to work alongside his father to help support the family. Dad was always a hard worker and was still cutting trees just two weeks before his passing. At the age of 14, he sold his horse and bought his first car, one of many over the years to follow. He bought only Chev trucks stating that they were the best and he often declared he was the best driver in the West. He was a member of the Annapolis Valley Gun Club for many years. He competed in numerous skeet and trap competitions, earning dozens of trophies and awards, and was known as one of the best in Nova Scotia, earning the nickname "Top Gun".
