Juanita Irene Desmond passed away peacefully with her sister holding her hand in the Palliative Care Unit at the Aberdeen Hospital.
Born in New Glasgow, Juanita was a daughter of the late Evelyn Desmond-Graham. Juanita had such a beautiful smile that would light up the world. Juanita attended Temperance Street School as a child, then, due to health reasons went on to the NS Youth Training Centre. Returning home upon its closure, she then attended Summer Street Industries until her retirement. At the age of 31, Juanita made her home at Riverview Adult Residential Centre until her passing.
No one was allowed to touch the TV when Bonanza and Little House on the Prairie were on, those were Juanita’s favs. Juanita loved to crochet (she made the best slippers ever), knit, paint and do word search puzzles.
Surviving are sisters: Alice "Bubby" Carrigan, New Glasgow; Carolyn "Dudy" Desmond, Montreal; Jessie (Daryl) Johnson, Moncton; Annette (Greg) MacLean, New Glasgow; numerous nieces and nephews; extended family, Johanna, Alice, Barbie and Timmy at Riverview Adult Residential Centre.
She was predeceased by her mother, Evelyn; stepfather, Bertram Graham; sister, Karen "Tiny"; maternal grandparents, Isaac and Jessie (Paris) Desmond; nephew, Derek Smith.
We were so happy that Juanita has given the gift of life as a tissue and cornea donor.
The family would like to thank the staff at Riverview Adult Residential Centre, especially Sheppard’s Lane and Evergreen, for all the excellent care she received during the last 36 years; Summer Street Industries; EHS Staff; ER Dept, 4 South Staff at the Aberdeen Hospital, and a special thank you to the Palliative Care nurses, Dr. Horton and Dr. Kwasnik; last, but not least, to Brian and Greg Hiscott at R.H. Porter Funeral Home.
Celebration of Life will take place from 1-4pm on Saturday, December 14, at Summer Street Industries, 72 Park St., New Glasgow, with Words of Remembrance at 2pm.
Donations in Juanita’s memory may be made to Summer Street Industries.
