Muriel was born in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, and passed away peacefully on August 12, 2026, at St. Joseph’s Auxiliary Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta, at the age of 84. A beloved mother, grandma, granny, great-grandma, aunt, sister, and friend, to know her was to be loved by her.
Mom is now reunited with those who went before her: her father, Everett George; her stepfather, Frank Soboda; her mother, Ada Bertha Soboda; her son-in-law, Mark Bertamini; and her nephew, Daniel George. At last, she also meets her big sister, Dorothy George, who passed away before Mom was born, the two of them finally together after a lifetime apart.
She leaves behind so many who will carry her always: her daughters, Paula Bertamini (Ross Lauber) and Laura Krauss (Greg); her cherished grandchildren, Parker Bertamini (Jenelle), Hannah Krauss, and Eva Krauss; and her beautiful new great-granddaughter, Lillian Bertamini, who wrapped her tiny hand around Mom’s while the one word Mom couldn’t stop saying was “beautiful.” She is also lovingly remembered by her brother, Robert George, and his daughters, Cynthia (Richard) Gauvreau and Jennifer Leonard, and their families.
Mom was a nurse for most of her career, caring for others with the same warmth she gave her family. Gifted with her hands at sewing, knitting, and crocheting, she loved her church community through choir, crafting, and volunteering. She loved to swim, adored Scottish country dancing, knew a good bargain, and never needed much reason to celebrate, because she truly loved a good party. With her silly sense of humour and her deep love for her family, she filled every room she was in, and even as she faced dementia in her final years, her spirit and warmth never left her.
Our family thanks Dr. Bradstock and the nursing staff of the Rosewood Garden ward at St. Joseph’s Auxiliary Hospital for the kindness and compassion they showed Mom throughout her time in their care. Cremation has taken place, with heartfelt thanks to Prairie Rose Cremation & Funeral Services for their kind and caring arrangements.
