Elisabeth Ackermann of Halifax, died on May 23, 2026 at age 86. Born in Switzerland, she was the daughter of the late Giovanni and Gertrud (Haechler) Iselin. She grew up, and was educated as a teacher in her native country, but immigrated to Canada in 1964 with her former husband and their eight-month-old daughter Lotti. Their son Adrian was born in 1965 in Mission City, B.C.
Elisabeth was an active member of Birch Cove Baptist Church, where she served on many boards and committees, founded an ESL program and a Bible study for ESL students as well as led various other Bible studies and prayer groups.
She taught English, French, and German in various situations and was also involved in administration both at the International Language Institute as well as at Saint Mary’s University.
She is survived by daughter Lotti Ackermann (Ottawa) and son Adrian (Andy)Ackermann (Shubenacadie); grandchildren Ben, Laura, and Ethan Ackermann; sister Annemarie Jaun (husband Paul, sons Daniel, Andreas), Switzerland; brother Sam Iselin (wife Christine, daughter Ursina & family, son Lukas & family), Switzerland; as well as several cousins in Switzerland. Predeceased by sister Beatrice Iselin de Diaz.
A service will be held to celebrate her life later this summer at Birch Cove Baptist Church in Halifax, NS.
Donations in her memory may be made to Birch Cove Baptist Church, Bayside Camp, Halifax Ecumenical Food Bank or Canadian Cancer Society.
