We are deeply saddened to announce that Joseph William Boudreau, 82, of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025 at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax, with his loving wife and family by his side.
Born in L’Ardoise, he was the son of the late Mary Stella Bonin and the late John Henry Boudreau.
Growing up full of mischief he not only had to walk uphill both ways to school, but also to see Helen in West Arichat. As a young whippersnapper he was a talented athlete, who loved westerns and the forest.
Early into their married life he & Helen set roots in northern Quebec, developing memories and friendships which always stayed in their hearts.
To say Joe loved his job as a truck driver is an understatement, even though legend has it that he never slept in his 40-year career. With Bologna sandwiches in hand he loved life on the road, sharing stories with fellow truckers, singing along to classic country songs, and giving detailed directions.
At home Joe loved sharing moments with family and friends. Christmas always brought a sparkle to his eye as it meant the family was together. He was the life of the party, whether it was telling jokes, getting the dancing started, or playing his music. A man of many talents he nailed a perfect impression down to the accent, cleaned your dishes before you knew they were missing, and made your knees buckle with his legendary cheesecakes.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Helen (nee Doiron); daughter Audrey (husband Tom Landry) of Dartmouth, sons Stephen (wife Jackie Mesic) of Hammonds Plains, Michael of Arichat; granddaughters Aleka, Samantha, and Eviny, who were his pride and joy; sister Irene (husband Robert MacLeod) of L’Ardoise, and brother Bertie (wife Carolyn) of West Arichat.
A heartfelt thank you to the doctors and nurses of palliative care, both from the Dartmouth office and the Victoria General for their kindness and compassion. Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Palliative Care, VG Hospital. Cremation has taken place under the care of Cole Harbour Funeral Home.
A celebration of life will be held at the New Horizon Seniors Club in Arichat on August 2nd, 2025 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. All family, friends and long-lost acquaintances welcome.
