December 18, 1985 - August 9, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Erika Marie (Voerman) Cameron of Grand Prairie, Alberta, and formerly of Heatherton, Nova Scotia, on August 9, 2025, at the age of 39. Erika passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute in Edmonton.
Born on December 18, 1985, in Kentville, Nova Scotia, Erika was the cherished daughter of Lute and Yvonne (Bowie) Voerman. The family later settled in Heatherton, where Erika attended elementary school and graduated from Dr. John Hugh Gillis Regional High School.
Following her passion for helping others, she pursued nursing at NSCC Yarmouth, becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Her career led her across Canada, serving in communities in Antigonish, Nunavut, New Brunswick, and Alberta, with a focus on hemodialysis care.
Despite being born with a congenital heart defect, Erika lived life with resilience and joy. She had a bright spirit and a generous heart that touched everyone she met. Erika had a deep love for travel, good food, sports, shopping, and, above all, time with family and friends. She enjoyed beach days and family camping trips with her cousins and friends. She loved spending time with her younger cousins, Charlie and Jake, and took great joy from their visits.
A kind and giving soul, Erika's compassion extended beyond her life—through organ donation, she continued to help others even in passing.
Erika is survived by her devoted husband of nine years, Jason Cameron of Grand Prairie; her parents, Lute and Yvonne Voerman, Antigonish; her sister, Sandi Voerman, Calgary; mother-in-law, Joanne Landry,Edmonton; father-in-law, James Cameron (Paula), Yarmouth; sister-in-law, Janine (Chris) Donovan, New Brunswick; brother-in-law, Ryan (Rhonda) Cameron, New Brunswick; her beloved niece, Quincy; nephews Brier and Liam; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and her treasured fur baby, Leo.
She was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Martin and Sadie (Tate) Bowie; paternal grandparents, Lute and Roelofje (Mooiweer) Voerman; and step-father-in-law, Henry Landry.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2:00–4:00 p.m. and 7:00–9:00 p.m. at C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Heatherton, with Reverend Dennis Lamey presiding.
Burial in the parish cemetery.
In Memoriam, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all the health care professionals who cared for Erika throughout her life, especially the staff of the IWK, Dr. Michelle Murphy of Antigonish, and the team at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute.
Forever in our hearts, Erika’s light will continue to shine through the lives she touched.
