Christie, Aubrey Arlington

Lower Sackville, NS

May 15, 1938 - July 12, 2026

Aubrey Arlington Christie, 88, ended his suffering from cancer on the morning of sunny Sunday, July 12, 2026, surrounded by family.

Born on May 15, 1938, in NS, and raised in St. Margaret's Bay by the caring Malcolm and Daisy Christie, he is survived by his loving, honoured, and cherished wife of 63 years, Marilyn Anne (née Hanlon), 4 children, 11 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and his brother Kenneth Earl Merlin (Anna).

He is predeceased by his youngest son Mark. His children and their spouses, Patrick (Christine), John (Lethicia), Anne, Mark (Athena), and Aileen Spinney (Charles), all took different paths in life but all referred to and valued the integrity and love their parents had for each other above all. They shared this love with all who were close to them and hope that it was a model for his grandchildren, Jonathan Mahoney, J. Jacob, Elijah, Hannah Spinney, Jessie, Linden de Oliveira, Henry MacDonald, Joseph Spinney, Max, Daniella, and Archer. His great grandchildren, Evita, Ivan, and Vera Mahoney, were treasures to him. He loved the international nature of his family with Filipino, West African, and Russian added to his and Marilyn's French and British Isles heritage.

Aubrey will undoubtedly be remembered by hundreds as, above all else, a good man. From the roadside assistance offered to stranded drivers, to driveways shoveled, to the households repaired among neighbours both near and far, he will stand as a testament to his faith and belief in doing good works and sharing love in his community.

Even as a boy he wanted to learn about fixing houses and taking care of homes to be seen as useful to others. He worked to overcome youthful shyness and be able to just talk to anyone. He surprised himself when he figured out that, "people want to talk to you as much as you want to talk to them." He was always quick to strike up a conversation with a stranger, and help any way he could.

While he was always proud of the quality of his work in general and especially in his 20+ years with Maritime Tel & Tel, he found his calling late in life getting a job being a part of travellers' journeys, able to drive them safely to their destinations and chat about their lives and families.

As a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, known for his volunteer and temple work, his faith was steadfast to the end. He looked forward to meeting the one he had worshipped most of his life and being with his loved ones who had passed before and got to bear this in a testimony meeting just one week before his passing.

His memorials will be on July 26, 12:30 PM, at the Church of Jesus Christ 177 Manchester Avenue, Saint John, NB, and on August 1, 2026, 1:30 PM, at the Church of Jesus Christ, 51 McDougall Dr., Lower Sackville, NS.
