CREIGHTON, Dr. Mervyn

Tatamagouche, NS

April 16, 1937 - January 20, 2024

It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Dr. James Mervyn Creighton, (born April 16, 1937) on January 20, 2024.  He survived by his loving wife, Jean (nee MacKeen) of 62 years; children, Karen (Stan) Sutherland, Joan (Andrew) Lohoar, Ian (Tracy) Creighton, and Susan (Tom) Hoferek. Mervyn adored his grandchildren, Katie, Benjamin, Alexander, Maxwell, Mila, and Clara and never failed to sing happy birthday in person or over the phone to the delight of all.

Mervyn graduated from Dalhousie Dentistry in 1974, practicing in Kentville for many years until moving to Toronto to complete a speciality in paedodontics at the University of Toronto in 1986. Ottawa became his home, working in private practice and at CHEO until returning to Nova Scotia. He then spent his time commuting between Tatamagouche and Halifax teaching at the Dalhousie Dental School until his retirement at the age of 81.

He was happiest behind the wheel, driving to Florida was a yearly occurrence and evening tours were a daily event. He enjoyed hockey, hours on his lawnmower, and summers with his Periwinkle Lane family and lifelong friends. He was active in his church, and in many local organizations.

Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Dan MacDonald and to the entire staff of the LFM Hospital, Willow Lodge and the village community for their kind, compassionate care, and support.

Donations in memory may be made to Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Willow Lodge or a charity of choice.

Cremation has taken place with no visitation by request. A Service will be held at Sharon United Church in Tatamagouche on Thursday, January 25th at 2pm with Rev. Linton Worrell officiating. A reception will follow with interment taking place in Lockerby Memorial Cemetery in the springtime.
