Doyle, Bernard Joseph (Bernie)

Halifax, NS

December 22, 2024

Doyle, Bernard Joseph "Bernie", age 60 of Halifax, passed away on December 22, 2024, in the Dartmouth General Hospital.

Born in Antigonish, he was a son of the late Arthur and Rose (Kelly) Doyle.

Bernie grew up in Erinville and this is where he was happiest and felt most at home. He always envisioned his retirement on the same land where he grew up, connected to his family and roots.

He spent much of his career working on school buses as a very skilled mechanic. His love of mechanics began when he was only 13, when he was able to get the engine running in an abandoned VW beetle in the woods of Erinville. He could fix anything and was always there to help friends and family. There was no such thing as taking your car to a shop. His grandchildren say they will miss his kindness the most - he always had treats on hand that were "for the kids."

Bernie loved those around him with all his heart, and those relationships were what meant most in the world to him. He took the time to teach and guide us with absolute patience. Never afraid of failure, he was always encouraging and supportive.

Bernie loved to have a good time and had a unique ability to make people feel welcome. He shared his love of laughter with us all and always had a smile. We have many fond memories of his exceptional ability to execute a professional prank call.

We will miss his presence immensely, but we know he is healthier and in a happy place. We are sure he is laughing with those he missed so dearly, particularly his dad who left us too early.

He is survived by his sons, Brad (Jessica), Halifax; and Mark (Ashley), Porters Lake; grandchildren, Adeline, Quinlan, and Norah; brother, Henry (Cecile), North Grant; sister, Carmel (Anthony) Benoit, Pomquet; and sisters-in-law, Doreen and Margie.

Predeceased by brothers, Edward and Kevin; sister, Marguerite Barker-Chisholm; and Brad and Mark’s mother, Mary "Jeannie" Murrin.

He was so proud of his boys’ accomplishments and his grandchildren held a special place in his heart. His loss leaves a big space in our family, but we know that his legacy lives on in us.

Visitation will be held Friday, December 27th, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, December 28th, in St. Thomas Church, Salmon River Lake, at 11:00am. Burial in the parish cemetery at a later date.

In Memoriam, donations to St. Thomas Church appreciated.
