Port Hawkesbury, NS

May 12, 1939 - July 16, 2025

With heavy hearts and profound love, we share the passing of Mary Belle MacIntyre in the Palliative Care Unit of St. Martha’s Regional Hospital on July 16, 2025. Belle was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, on May 12, 1939, the daughter of Neil Ronald MacIntyre and Christina Evelyn Matheson. Mom was a mother, a grandmother, and a great-grandmother who loved her family deeply.

Mom grew up between Sydney and Breton Cove before moving to Halifax and then joining the Royal Canadian Air Force, where she completed her nursing diploma at CFB Trenton. Mom served as a Flight Nurse, traveling across the country while serving. Growing up, we have been fortunate to hear many stories of parachuting out of planes or tales of the bitter cold of Goose Bay, her last posting while serving.

After her military career, Mom moved to Toronto, where she worked as a surgical nurse and later as a family nurse. After leaving the medical profession, she worked with children and later in advertising with the Yellow Pages. It did not matter if it was her patients or her clients; she focused on doing her best and truly believed in her motto, "just don’t give up."

Finally settling in Port Hawkesbury, Mom became active with the Royal Canadian Legion and dedicated herself to honoring Canadian Veterans through her love of the Port Hawkesbury Veterans monument and various fundraising efforts, all of which raised awareness and tribute for those who served.

Mom will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her children, Wendy Allen and Robert (Loreen Allen); her grandchildren, Ryan (Stefanie), Luke, Cole, and Keirha; and her great-grandchild, Mason.

She is survived by her brother, Dave (Elizabeth) and Dougie (Colleen), along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Mom was predeceased by her parents, Neil and Evelyn (MacIntyre), and brothers Norman, Johnny, Kenny, Malkie, and Charlie (MacIntyre).

Cremation has taken place, with a family service scheduled for Monday, July 21, at 5 PM at Riverview Cemetery in Marion Bridge, Nova Scotia.
