With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dear Rouie Adair (Johnson) Rushton at the age of 84 from Oxford, Nova Scotia.
The matriarch of the family, a matriarch of the community. The lover of all children, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The giver and doer of all of the things for everyone. Words cannot express how heartbroken we all are at this great loss. Rouie loved supporting and helping the community, just to name of few close to her heart: Pythian Sisters, Fireman's Ladies Auxiliary, EMO Coordinator of Oxford, Oxford Town Councilor, Educational Assistant at Oxford Elementary School, first female to be on the Recreation Commission in Nova Scotia, Volunteer of Oxford/Cumberland County Air Canada Award - Heart of Gold, Queen of Oxford Fire Department.
You could always find Rouie catering to many events, helping with exhibition week and managing and running the berry fields. Rouie could also be found at her special place, the beach, with the teapot always on watching the hummingbirds, telling us about the weather, playing cards and entertaining anyone that stopped, but most of all loving time with her family.
She will be dearly missed by her husband and soul mate of 65 years, George Allan Rushton. Also by her loving children, Dennis (Debbie), Larry (Sue), Bruce (Shannon), Adair (Ann), Gail (Steve); grandchildren, John, Skylar, Scott, Bethany, Christopher, Jacob, Emily, Makayla, Sidney, Paige, Megan, Nicholas, Krystal, Brandon, Daniel and Colby; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Beth King and Eileen Jeffers (Walsh); son-in-law, Stanley Allen; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Eudora (Nix) Johnson; siblings, Silva, Goldie, Karen and Danny; daughter, Valerie.
Visitation will be from 2-6 pm Tuesday, June 18 in MacDiarmid's Funeral Homes & Crematorium. Funeral service will be at 2 pm Wednesday, June 19 in Trinity United Church, Oxford.
