RYAN, Betty Lou

Port Hawkesbury, NS

February 21, 1945 - January 11, 2024

Betty Lou Ryan, 79, of Port Hawkesbury and formerly of Margaree, passed away on January 11, 2024 at home with her family by her side. Born in Inverness, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Edward and Minnie Timmons. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish, Port Hawkesbury.

Betty is survived by her brothers, Leo (Darlene) Timmons, and Gordon (Beverly) Timmons; sisters-in-law, Anne Timmons, Frances Ryan, Verna Phillips, Margie MacNamara; her children, Connie Nicholson, Diana (John) MacDougall, Wanda (Allan) Burns, Beverly (Edward) MacDougall, Thomas Ryan; grandchildren, Matthew (Kelly), Joshua (Nicole), Jonathan (Kaitlyn), Bethany (Chester), Alicia, Bernie (Jillian), Daniel (Maranda), Felicia, Keisha, Ryan (Amanda) and especially her “Roomie”, Chelsea. Mom also leaves behind her beloved great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Ryan; infant son, John Joseph; brother, Harry; brothers-in-law, Anthony, Joe and Howard Ryan; sisters-in-law, Louise Smith, Janet Burton, Florence Timmons; and many aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces.

Betty was never one to shy away from having fun with her loved ones. Living her last few years with her “Roomie” and best friend, Chelsea kept her young at heart and going strong. She was loved and well-known for the spitfire she was. Never one to hold back what she was really thinking, she kept us all laughing. There was no one better to have on your side, no matter the situation. She loved fiercely and unconditionally, and we are all better versions of ourselves because of that. She will be missed by all who had the honour to know her.

Special Thanks to Mom’s team of healthcare workers: Kyla, Dr. Cooper and their team of wonderful nurses; and also to the Strait Richmond ER nurses who Mom just loved – thank you all.

A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Betty's name to Strait Richmond Palliative Care, Strait Richmond Hospital or a charity of your choice.
