Halifax, NS January 12, 1958 - September 13, 2024 It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Gail, surrounded by her loving family, on September 13, 2024 at the QEII Hospital after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Halifax on January 12, 1958, she was the cherished daughter of William and Margaret (Raye) McGlone. Gail was a proud North End girl and a lifelong resident of the Hydrostone. She attended St. Joseph’s School and St. Patrick’s High. Gail was employed with Canada Mortgage and Housing for 25 years and Costco. She also hosted many international students over the years. She loved genealogy, shopping, dining, dancing and travelling. She is survived by her loving husband Tim Baine; adored daughter Tiffany; sister and best friend Heather; brother-in-law Ronnie; parents-in-law Pat and Peter Baine; nieces Margie, Valerie, Christina, and Kimberlee; nephews Raymond and Stephen; and much-loved cat Maybelline. Gail will be missed by life long friends Michele (xo), Carol (hugs), cousin Valerie (xo), Brenda and Belinda. She was predeceased by her parents William and Margaret, brothers Stevie, Ricky and Gary, and nephews Randy and Colton. Cremation has taken place. Burial in Gates of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hope for Wildlife. Sincere thanks to Palliative Care team, Dr. K. Lobban, Northwood Continuing Care, especially Jenna, Dylan, Darlene and Nancy. Halifax, NS September 20, 2024 KANELLAKOS, John Dimitrios It is with profound sadness that the family of John Kanellakos announces his passing on Friday, September 20, 2024 at the age of 86 in the Halifax Infirmary. He was born in Anavriti, Greece in 1938, the oldest son of the late Dimitrios and Aspasia Kanellakos. He arrived in Halifax by ship at Pier 21 on March 2, 1958 and travelled to Springhill to work with the Vlahos family in the Candy Kitchen. He returned to Halifax where he partnered with his cousin, Bill Vlahos and opened Cousins Snack Bar. He was eventually joined by his three brothers, who together established Cousins Restaurant on Lady Hammond Road, which became an iconic fixture in North End Halifax. Success in the restaurant business allowed him and his brothers to form Cousins Realty, which he continued to manage until his death. He is survived by his devoted wife of over 60 years Helen (Mitrakos); son James (Dimitra) and daughter, Matina (Kent); grandchildren, John, Andrew, Eleni and Elena. He is also survived by his brothers George (Bessie), William (Helen) and Peter (Kiki), alongside numerous cherished nephews, nieces and cousins. John was very proud of his Greek heritage, especially his home village of Anavriti and the neighbouring town of Sparti, where he spent many summers. He was active in St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church, served on the governing council for a number of years, and helped in transitioning the community from a small building on Morris Street to the beautiful church and community centre on Purcell’s Cove Road. Most of all, John loved and was proud of his family, especially his beloved grandchildren, who adored their Pappou. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the Staff of the Dickson Centre Dialysis Unit and Halifax Infirmary Unit 6.2 for their compassion and care for John. Visitation will take place Monday, Sept. 23 from 6-9:00pm at JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive. Funeral Service at St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church on Tuesday Sept. 24 at 11:00am 1146 Purcell’s Cove Rd., Halifax. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church.

A ntigonish, NS September 20, 2024 MacDonald, Catharine Anne "Cacky" ,57, of Antigonish, formerly of Westmount, Cape Breton, passed away peacefully on Friday September 20th surrounded by her family. Born in Sydney Cape Breton, she was a daughter of the late James Fraser and Edith Louise MacDonald. Catharine dedicated 32 years of her life to the teaching profession. She was passionate about her students and education having received Canadian Parents for French Second Language Educator of the Year while teaching at St. Andrews Junior School, Antigonish. Over her life her passion for history, wildlife, and nature was unfailing. She was an enthusiastic hiker, seeking out Nova Scotia’s waterfalls and a world traveler making a point to visit Peru, Egypt, Jordan, Galapagos Islands, Scotland, and Ireland, the list goes on. It was in her retirement that Catharine fully immersed herself in her love of photography, capturing incredible photos of wildlife and surrounding nature. Throughout 17 of her years in Antigonish she had one trusted friend that could not go without mentioning, her loving cat Teddie. She will be dearly missed by her siblings, Dan, Sydney; Rod (Julie), East Bay; Rosena MacDonald, Halifax; Alonzo (Lucy), Halifax; nieces Aky (Andrew Komar), Toronto; and Emily and Olivia both of Halifax; grand niece and nephew Cynthia and James. Memorial donations may be made to Cancer Society, Cobequid Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, or the SPCA.
- Wallace, Jack "Bill" William
Enfield, NS January 2, 1935 - September 21, 2024 On September 21st our family said goodbye to their biggest fan. Jack "Bill" was born in Hespeler, Ontario in 1935. He was the only child of John Wilfred and Ada (Booth Haywood) Wallace. He joined the RÇN at age 16. After basic training in Cornwallis, NS, his first posting was to Halifax where he met the love of his life, Elsa at an Olympic Gardens dance. Jack retired from the RCN in 1977 as a Master Warrant Officer 2nd class cooking branch. Thank you for your 26 years of service to our country. He was an excellent cook. His steak and kidney and meat pies were world famous to all who had the pleasure to enjoy them. He was passionate about sailing and was a Charter Member of Grand Lake Yacht Club, founded in 1981. He won seven club championships with his Tanzer 22, "Katie Lynne". After retirement from the military, he was manager of Atlantic Building Cleaning, Scotia Square and in his later years, an insurance broker with RK Wilson Insurance, Enfield, NS. He was proud of what he accomplished in life and so was his family. He was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend. His love of cars and sports, keen wit and delightful sense of humour, teasing and whistling will be remembered by all who knew him. He was an all-round great guy. He was predeceased by his wife, Elsa (Elsie) Chaddock with whom he shared 64 years of marriage. He was proud of his two daughters, Linda (Bob) Wilson and Helen (Don) Langille, Enfield, NS, grandchildren Katie (Paul) McGrory, Calgary; Keith Wilson (Holly Chessman), Dartmouth; and five great grandchildren Clarke, Jack, Avery, Brooks and Spencer and many nieces and nephews. When we told Dad we loved him, which was often, he would reply same, same. So, to you Dad, same, same until we meet again. To the 6 West staff of Camp Hill Veterans Memorial, you are unsung heroes and angels in disguise. Your care and compassion for Jack will never be forgotten. Truro, NS September 18, 2024 Carol Susan Haley – 79, of Truro passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on September 18, 2024, in the Palliative Care Unit of Colchester East Hants Health Centre. Carol is survived by her children, Lorraine Augustine (Mike Bernard), Tina Campbell (Neill), Tracey Johnson (Robert) and Trevor Legacy (Melissa McLane); siblings, Lee Paul (Ross Marr), Shirley Francis, Noella Augustine (Jimmy), Mary Sark (Darcy), Theresa Levi (Robert), Anne Levi (Lee), Carrie Franics (Brian) and Jimmy Augustine (Beatrice); grandchildren, Mike Cook (Susie Joy), Troy Cook, Courtney Campbell, Jeremy Campbell (Rachel Tucker), Casandra Johnson, Brandon Barclay, Keelyn McLane (Kobe Nicholas), McKenna Legacy, Tarran Legacy, Jack Bernard (Brandy) and Michelle Bernard; great grandchildren, MacKenzie Joy-Cook, Ethan Campbell, Lennox Nicholas, Landon Higgins, Kaylie Higgins, Charlee Bernard, Dallas Bernard and Austin Bernard; several nieces and nephews; godchildren, Lee Paul and Dr. Rob Johnson. She will also be missed by her fur companions, Precious and Rambo who were always by her side. Carol was predeceased by sisters, Emma Levi, Judy Bernard, Patricia Bernard, Sharon Augustine, Tammy Marie Augustine; brothers, Darrell Augustine and Leo Augustine Jr. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses in the Palliative Care Unit of Colchester East Hants Health Centre, the Colchester East Hants Hospice Society and Mark MacPherson for the compassionate care they provided to our mom in her final days and hours. Honoring Carol’s wishes there will not be a service, but the family invites you to a Celebration of her life 4-7 pm on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at The Peg, 10675 Highway 2 Masstown. Windsor, NS November 22, 1959 - September 9, 2024 Daughter to Herman and Margaret Walker. Survived by her son Kevin (Shannon) brother Terry (Candace) sisters Lisa (Norman) Cheryl Clements. Her 5 nephews Chris, Shaun, Ryan, Brandon and Michael and Niece Kayla. As well as 4 great nephews and 3 great nieces. Lorna was a beautiful soul with a light that shined so bright there was never anyone left in the dark. She loved the outdoors and everything it had to offer. Her long Sunday drives would take her on adventures even she didn't know the destinations of. Lorna was an avid bird watcher but her true love for animals was with all the doggies she looked after over the years as well as all of the animals she had herself. Those animals were all loved by her in the most adorable of ways and there's no doubt they loved her back just the same. Lorna was a very selfless women who always put the people she loved before her making sure everyone else was taken care of before herself. Lorna loved photography , animals of all kinds and she loved music as she had great rhythm and loved to get down and boogie. She was an amazing mother to her son Kevin. She made sure everyday for 36 years he had what he needed to succeed in life and raised him to be a caring, kind and gracious young man. Through his 6 years of playing D1 boys basketball she never missed a single game as she was the most dedicated mother you'd ever meet. Lorna will be missed by so many people as her light was a beacon for everyone she ever came in contact with throughout her 64 years on earth. I love you mom, may you rest in peace. xo

Middle River, NS October 23, 1936 - September 19, 2024 We regret to announce the passing of Jacqueline Shirley MacDonald on September 19, 2024, in the Victoria Co. Memorial Hospital, Baddeck, NS. Born in Little Narrows on October 23, 1936, Jacqueline was the daughter of the late John W. and Anne Elizabeth (MacDonald) Fownes. She began school at South Side Baddeck and was in the first graduating class of Baddeck Rural High School in 1954. The following year she attended Nova Scotia Normal College, graduating with her Superior First Rank Diploma. She continued studies at St. F.X. University, Sydney and other courses provided by the Nova Scotia Department of Education. In addition to her educational studies, in 2006 she received certification as a Lay Pastoral Counselor. Jacqueline’s first teaching position was at Blackett's Lake, Cape Breton Co. and in 1992 she retired from Baddeck Consolidated School. She also contributed to the lives of young people as a Sunday school teacher, superintendent, and Vacation Bible School teacher. Over the years, she was also a valued member of many community groups and organizations both here in Nova Scotia and in Roxbury, Massachusetts. Many years of dedication to the teaching profession saw Jacqueline take valuable time to travel extensively throughout many parts of the world. This global perspective added a great deal to her teaching and provided many memorable experiences for her students when she would share pictures and recount events with them. Unpretentious, she lived a Christian Life with modesty, love, and compassion. Jacqueline is survived by her brother Leo (Joan), sister-in-law Charlotte, nieces and nephews and many cherished friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Betty and John, her husband Fraser, brothers Frankie, Bernie, and Donnie, sisters Nancy and Maureen, sister-in-law Judy, brothers-in-law Robert Tellum and Paul Sr. Zahner. Jacqueline would like to thank Home Care for their help and support, as well as the doctors and nurses who cared for her. She gives a special thanks to her many good neighbors and friends. A graveside service will be held on Saturday September 28, 2024, in the Middle River Cemetery at 2 pm, with Rev. Bill Johnston officiating, everyone is welcome to attend. Following the service, there will be a reception in the Middle River Community Hall. Memorials may be made to the Middle River Community Hall or charity of one’s choice.

Herring Cove, NS September 15, 2024 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear father and grandfather, Gerard “Max” Gallagher, age 92, of Herring Cove, Nova Scotia, who passed away peacefully on September 15, 2024. He will be forever cherished by his children, Chris (Jeannette) and Catherine (Arnold), and deeply missed by his granddaughters, Amanda (Graeme) and Katelyn (Liam), as well as his step-granddaughters, Ashley and Aryn. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Catherine; his parents, Edward and Catherine; and his brothers, Edward “Babs” and Donald. A lover of the ocean, Max was raised amongst the cliffs of Duncan’s Cove, where his father was the keeper of the Chebucto Head lighthouse. A dedicated former employee of CBC Radio, he was also an avid sportsman and an active member of the Herring Cove community, where he leaves behind a lasting legacy of love and friendship. Known for his quick wit and sense of humour, Max had the unique ability to brighten any day—never telling the same joke twice (HA!). He was also remarkably handy, capable of building or fixing anything with skill and ingenuity. Though he will be greatly missed, Max’s vibrant spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know him. The Gallagher family would like to extend a special thank you to Colleen and Cyril for their unwavering support. A service to celebrate Max's life will be held on Thursday, September 26th at 10:00AM at Stella Maris Parish (formerly St. Michael's Catholic Church). He was employed at Canada Post during his working career. Rajeev was a talented and active soccer player in his youth. He was predeceased by his parents, father David, and mother Rano. Rajeev is survived by his sister Niloo (Dan), and brothers Raju (Shubnam), Sunil (Elva). A private service will be at J A Snows Funeral Home 339 Lacewood Drive on Tuesday September 24 at 2pm, followed by a burial at Fairview Lawn Cemetery. Please say a prayer for our brother’s, Ever Lasting PEACE.

New Glasgow, NS September 11, 1951 - September 14, 2024 James "Jim" Earle Fraser, September 11, 1951 – September 14, 2024, New Glasgow, NS. It is with great sorrow that we share the loss of our dear father, grandfather, brother and friend. Jim passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2024 after a short but difficult battle with cancer. Jim was predeceased by his parents, J. Earle Fraser (1995) and Viola "Vi" Fraser (2021) of New Glasgow; sister, Gail Blair (2011) and brother, Fred "Charlie" Fraser (2016). Jim is survived by his sons: Tyler Fraser (Liane) of Calgary; JB Fraser; and daughter, Amanda Fraser of Trenton; and precious grandchildren: Haylie, Ethan and Logan Fraser of Calgary. He will be greatly missed by his sisters: Sandra Ryan of Yarmouth; Dorothy Mitchell (Jim Ferris) of Kitchener; and Margaret MacDonald (Brian) of Westville; as well as his sister-in-law, Fran Fraser of Salt Springs. "Jimmie" leaves behind four nieces: Amy Fraser, Sheri Douglas, Sonia Ryan and Susan Mitchell/Hicks as well as eight nephews: Charlie (CB) Fraser, Mark and Paul Mitchell, John Ryan, John and Jason Douglas, Ross MacDonald and Paul Blair and many wonderful cousins. The family would like to acknowledge Matthew McKenzie for his friendship and support throughout the years as well as Joan Cameron for her support during his battle with cancer. Jim’s passions were wood working and carpentry and he was well known for his attention to detail. He was also known for his quick wit, one liners and sarcastic sense of humour. He enjoyed annual trips out to Calgary, AB to visit his son Tyler and his family. Jim and his son spent quality time together by swinging a hammer, pouring concrete or cracking jokes to the subtrades on site. If anyone knew Jim, they would tell you firsthand how stubborn he could be and when he made a decision, he stood by it. That stubbornness enabled him to enjoy the last 8 years of his life in sobriety. Jim was a man of great qualities and integrity. He will be greatly missed by anyone that had the pleasure of being a part of his life. As per Jim’s wishes, no service will be held.

Falmouth, NS November 27, 1960 - September 17, 2024 Ronald Peter MacCormack, 63, of Falmouth, NS. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 17th, 2024 at Hants Community Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Arichat, NS and was the seventh son of the late John Alec & Stella (Richard) MacCormack. After graduating from NSCC with a diploma in carpentry he briefly worked in Sydney, NS before settling in Falmouth, NS and starting his own contracting and construction business and operating it for 40 years. He loved curling, cheering on the Boston Bruins and going on camping trips with his family. Ronnie always looked forward to family gatherings, especially family game nights. He is survived by his wife Joy Woodman-MacCormack; children Nova (Paul) MacCormack, Chet (Katie) MacCormack and Drew (Ksenia) MacCormack; one granddaughter Harper, the twinkle in his eye. Sibling Jean (Don) Ferguson, Donald (Alice) MacCormack, Gerald (Carol Anne) MacCormack, Christina MacCormack, Dennis MacCormack. He is predeceased by his brothers Carl MacCormack, Bernard MacCormack, Johnny MacCormack and Allan MacCormack. A Celebration of Life is being held at the Windsor Curling Club on Sunday, September 29th from 2:00-4:00pm in honour of his memory.
- Murphy, Sheldon Francis
Little Bras D'or, NS October 17, 1941 - September 16, 2024 Sheldon Francis Murphy passed away peacefully with his son by his side on September 16, 2024. Born in Sydney Mines on October 17, 1941, he was the only child of the late Joseph and Violet (MacLean) Murphy. Left to mourn his loss are his four children: Shannon (Francis), Amber, Erin (Verna), and Hali (Mark); four granddaughters: Ashley (Graham), Candace, Janelle (Coady), and Lily; and four great grandchildren: Blake, Carlie, Bridget and Lachlan. In his youth, Sheldon pursued his talent for art at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, dreaming of a career as an art teacher. However, as life often does, his path shifted, bringing him back to his roots in Sydney Mines. He first helped run the family’s tavern, “The Shamrock,” before dedicating many years as a foreman at the Sydney Steel Corporation. His family can’t remember him ever missing a shift. Though Sheldon wasn’t typically one for material possessions, he took immense pride in his Cadillac keeping it immaculate at all times. Sheldon was a storyteller at heart, happiest when sharing memories, spending time at the race track, playing cards, or enjoying a good scoff. His love for conversation and laughter will be sorely missed. Sheldon’s absence will be most deeply felt by his son Erin, with whom he lived for the past 15 years and by Verna Yorke, whose exceptional care provided him with great comfort and dignity. In accordance with Sheldon’s wishes, cremation has taken place; there will be no visitation at this time. A private family service will take place at a later date.
