Gibson Woods, NS January 27, 2024 Phyllis Audrey (Gibson) Clements - 93, lifelong resident of Gibson Woods, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 27, 2024 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Gibson Woods, she was a daughter of the late Roy and Bessie (Gibson) Viner. Prior to retirement, Phyllis was a Personal Care and Support worker for the Municipality of Kings. In her younger years, she worked for Maple Leaf Poultry, formerly Canard Poultry, as well as for Wright’s Clothing Store in Kentville. She was an active member and former Deacon of Gibson Woods United Baptist Church and a member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 006 Ladies’ Auxiliary and the Legion Colour Party. Phyllis is survived by her sons, Reginald (Teresa), Whitehorse, Yukon; Leslie (Rhonda Cromwell), Gibson Woods; and Joseph, Kentville; daughters, Susan Clements-Anderson (Dan Dubreuil), Eastern Passage; Audrey (Donald) Bowen, Eastern Passage; Patricia (Robert) Okoh, Ottawa, ON; sister, Helena Jackson, Gibson Woods; grandchildren, Amber Young, Tara Anderson, Madison Clements-Dubreuil, Kayla Clements, Jordan Svennes and Claire Boeckner; four great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Harold Clements; brothers, Burlen and Harold "Alfie"; sisters, Frances Taylor and Yvonne "Bonnie" (Viner) States; and daughter-in-law, Lorraine Clements. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 3, in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, with a Legion service at 5:30 p.m. The funeral service (with livestream) will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 4, in the White Family Funeral Home with a reception to follow. Kentville, NS June 2, 1946 - January 25, 2024 It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Linda May Zwicker, a caring, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, on Thursday January 25th, 2024, at the Valley Hospice where she went to sleep peacefully surrounded by family and friends. Born in Wolfville Hospital on June 2nd, 1946, she was the daughter of Pierce and Nellie (Virtue) Schofield. Linda lit up any room she entered and sprinkled her kindness and generosity wherever she went. Her heart was filled with warmth, kindness and optimism and she was able to bring out the good in everyone she met by sharing that with them. Linda dedicated her life to her God, Jehovah and was baptized on December 8th, 1974. She was a zealous Christian that wanted to spread Jehovah’s message and teach his great news to all people for the future. Her faith was intact throughout the years even during her last year of battling cancer, where she found comfort in Jehovah’s words on Rev. 21:4 "death will be no more". Linda is survived by the love of her life Jack Zwicker (who loved her without words) recently celebrating 56 years of marriage. Also left to mourn are her daughter Krista, and son-in-law Alfred. She leaves behind her loving grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Jacob. Linda is also survived by her brother Curtis (Judy) Schofield, along with numerous family members. She was predeceased by her infant son Trevor. Linda spent 49 years in the volunteer ministry in multiple provinces within Canada, supporting the role of her husband Jack. She also was a loving spiritual sister in the many congregations she was a part of. She was a great cook and made delicious dishes that many people enjoyed. Linda loved using her hairdressing skills and doing the hair of many sisters. She loved talking to people anywhere she was. She also enjoyed playing crokinole with her dear friend Betty and both enjoyed endless walks where they were known by many neighbors. Linda always had great stories to be shared and was always very interested in the well-being of others. Linda was one of a kind. She was truly loved by all who knew her. She was always a helper, honest, loving and a true woman who loved her family dearly. She is and always will be loved and missed by all who she leaves behind. We want to thank palliative care, doctors, and nurses as well as the excellent staff of Valley hospice and others who cared for Linda. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 10th, 2024, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 2 Baden Powell in Kentville, NS. Bible Hill, NS January 28, 2024 Helen Maude Bates – 74, Bible Hill, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family, on Sunday morning, January 28, 2024, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Truro, she was a daughter of the late Elmer and Edna (Dartt) Kennedy. She was a member of St. John’s Anglican Church and worked at Kennedy’s Deli for 30 years. Devoted to her family, she will be sorely missed by all of us. Bible Hill, NS January 29, 2024 Lucille Audrey (Joudrey) Goswell – 86, Bible Hill, formerly of Beaver Bank, Halifax County, passed away suddenly and peacefully at home, as a result of natural causes, on Monday, January 29, 2024. Born in Blockhouse, she was a daughter of the late Elvin and Leila (Ernst) Joudrey. Lucille worked at Department of National Defense in Halifax for many years from where she retired. She loved all animals and birds, and fed the birds every day from the many bird feeders in her backyard; she got great pleasure watching the birds and squirrels fighting over the food. She also loved to travel, and her greatest adventure was to Australia where she got up close to the koalas and kangaroos. She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Lucille is survived by her sons, David (Debbie) Goswell, Valley; Jeffrey Goswell (Randy MacMillan), East Village; grandchildren, Michelle (Mark) Webb, Debert; Shaun (Young) Goswell, St. Catharine’s, Ontario; Joel (Olivia) Goswell, Belmont; great grandchildren, Willow Goswell, Maeve Goswell; sisters, Jean Conrad, Chester; Marie Whittaker, Nanaimo, British Columbia; several nieces and nephews. Born on August 5, 1947, he was the son of the late Albert and Catherine (Huntley) Green of Grosvenor. He was employed with Charles MacLean Forestry and Stora Enso Woodlands for many years. He was your “go-to “man when your lawnmower needed repairs. This came to him naturally. He met and became friends with many people along the way.  He had a great love for the elderly; helping in any way that he could. He is survived by his loving spouse, Kathleen, and son, Chris.; sister, Melinda; brothers, Francis, Allan, Peter, Mike and Donald; Godson, Danny McGee; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, David; sisters, Sadie, Theresa and Kathleen; Brothers, Vince, George, Willie and Seward; in-laws, A.D. and Annie McGee; nephew, John Green; and an infant sister and brother. Dartmouth, NS January 26, 2024 With great sadness we say goodbye to our dearly loved mother Donalda Baker (87) of Dartmouth.  She passed away on January 26, 2024 at Oakwood Terrace Nursing Home. Mom was born in Charlottetown, PEI in 1936. Her family moved to Dartmouth in the mid-50s. Like most women of her generation, she was a stay-at-home housewife and mother. She dedicated her life to her husband, children and lovingly cared for her only grandchild during his preschool years. She was predeceased by her parents Andrew and Muriel Westergard of Dartmouth, her sister Vaunda Crozier of East Jeddore, and her beloved husband of 48 years Edgar (Buzz) Baker of Dartmouth. We are grateful for the time we have spent with her. Because of her determination, we had many more years than any of us expected.  She leaves behind daughter Andrea Mosher (Eastern Passage), son Edgar Baker (Dartmouth), son Scott Baker and his partner Marilyn Bullen (Cole Harbour), and grandson Matthew Mosher and his wife Cindy MacNeill (Eastern Passage). Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or service. A small family gathering will take place for the burial at Mount Hermon Cemetery.

Kentville, NS October 21, 1954 - January 25, 2024 Rodney Ward, a proud veteran of the Royal Canadian Air Force, passed away January 25, 2024. Rodney was predeceased by his beloved wife Marie-José (nee Van Haeren) in 2015. The son of Theresa Goyetche (nee Montague) and George Henry Ward, Rodney grew up in Montreal, Quebec with five siblings, Pamela, Lyall, Warren, Danny and Kelley. He was born October 21, 1954 and attended Bishop’s University, where he was distinguished twice as an All Canadian Linebacker for the Gaiters and received the Golden Mitre Award for his contribution to student life and culture. At the age of 23, Rodney enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force. After nearly 30 years of distinguished service, with many postings and flying multiple airframes, he retired at the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. He subsequently served 16 years as the Chief Simulations Officer at CFB Greenwood, showcasing a remarkable commitment to leadership and education. As a pilot, Rodney logged over 7400 flying hours. Following 9/11, Rodney received commendation from former US Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld for his leading role in bringing a NATO AWACS squadron from Germany to the USA to watch and guard the skies over New York City and the Pentagon. His proudest achievement was receiving the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) Commendation for Leadership and Initiative in establishing the CDS Military Families Fund in 2007. In his book, "Leadership" former Chief of Defense Staff General Rick Hillier wrote, "Rodney Ward, by thinking big, had changed the course of how a country views the families of those who serve and, consequent to that, how those families are supported and valued." Rodney, known to family and close friends as Boo Boo is survived by his children Thomas, Paul, Oliver and Claire and his nine grandchildren. Boo Boo will always be remembered for his singular devotion to his family and his great love of his wife, Marie-José. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Rodney’s life will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 with sharing of memories at 2:30 p.m. in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. There will be a livestream available at that time. A private memorial service for family will also be held at a later date this summer. Springhill, NS January 25, 2024 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James "Jimmy" Darrell Matthews. Jimmy passed away at the age of 45, on the evening of Thursday, January 25, 2024. Born in Springhill, he was the beloved son of the late Darrell and Diana Matthews. Jimmy will forever be remembered for his infectious laughter and his uncanny ability to bring joy to those around him. Jimmy had a passion for small engine repair demonstrating both great skill and dedication to the craft. His adventurous spirit thrived in the great outdoors, where he enjoyed biking, hunting, and camping. Jimmy loved having a good time, listening to music, and making others laugh while creating a lifetime of memories with family and friends. His magnetic personality left an unforgettable mark on every person fortunate enough to have known him. Though he has left an irreplaceable gap, the continuous love and laughter he shared will forever resonate with his partner Tracy MacDonald; sister, Tara Matthews; niece, Christiane Trimm, and many other family members and close friends. Amongst his special kins are cousins Kenneth "Sonny" Matthews and Mitchell St Peter as well as many other aunts, uncles, and cousins. In addition to his loving parents, Jimmy was predeceased by his grandparents, Harold and Catherine Boyce and Chester and Evelyn Matthews, amongst many other special family members and friends. Family and friends must say goodbye to their beloved Stephen Maxwell Pemberton (Windsor, Nova Scotia), who passed away at the age of 61, on January 25, 2024. Upper Kennetcook, NS February 1, 1927 - January 20, 2024 It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of our beloved mother on January 20, 2024, surrounded by her family at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre just days before her 97th birthday. Born in Upper Kennetcook, Nova Scotia on February 1, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Clerissa (Lantz) Burton.  Mum started her working career as a schoolteacher, working mainly in one room schoolhouses.  She also worked for Co-op in Truro, Shubenacadie and Stewiacke drug stores.  She did homecare for the elderly.  As well, she was the treasurer for St. John the Baptist Anglican Church and for the Parish of Maitland totalling 35 years.  She worked tirelessly for her community dedicating countless hours to the Four Points Rec Centre which she was one of the founding members, President of East Hants Senior Games, ACW, Red Hat Society and in her earlier years Ladies Auxiliary of the Maitland and District Fire Department and Nimble Fingers Craft Shop.  She received recognition in 2003 as the local volunteer of the year for East Hants.  Mum was an avid quilter, knitter, crocheter and loved to sew. She will be sadly missed by her only daughter, Beverly (Randy) Bennett, Maple Grove, sons, Melvin Hennigar, Alliston, Ontario/Tucson, AZ, Joel Hennigar, Dartmouth, Stanley (Jean) Weatherbee, Truro, and Robert Weatherbee, Maitland; 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; one surviving sister, Marie, Prince George, BC; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her first husband, Vernon Weatherbee (Korea 1951) and her second husband, James, infant son Norman, sisters Lillas, Lucy, Elsie, Hilda and brothers Hope, Oscar and Tom, daughter-in-law, Zoey Hennigar. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger’s Funeral Home, Shubenacadie, where a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 1PM, Rev Glenn Eason officiating. Burial will be held in St. John the Baptist Anglican Cemetery on Thursday, July 4, 2024 at 6:00 PM. Culloden, NS AUGUST 1, 1945 – JANUARY 15, 2024 Ross, Richard “Rocket” James, 78, of Culloden, NS passed away peacefully on January 15, 2024 at Yarmouth Regional Hospital with family by his side. He was born in Digby, NS on August 1, 1945 to the late Frank and Merna (Finigan) Ross. Richard was a formidable presence wherever he went. He loved to socialize and would make friends easily, resulting in friends all over the continent. He touched many, many lives over the years and enjoyed tormenting and getting a laugh from people. He was an honest, straight shooter and would give his opinion freely, sometimes without being asked. His door was always open as he loved to have visits from family and friends. Richard was great for gifting people with unique nicknames and those who were given one wore it proudly. He was selfless and would give of himself without discrimination, becoming a mentor to many. His family was the most important part of his world, especially his grandkids. He was a big part of their lives and was their biggest fan in whatever they did. He was a wonderful driving instructor to Knothead, the only voice Splinter could hear from the ice in the hockey rinks, and he loved to 'supervise' Chip in the shop. He was so very proud of all three of them. Richard had a great enthusiasm and deep passion for hockey. It was a large part of his life for many years, he played the sport as a young kid, then grew up and coached the DRHS high school team. Richard helped create the Digby Devils old timers hockey team for which he played. He became a huge presence in the rinks once again when his grandsons took up the sport he dearly loved. Besides hockey, Richard also spent a number of years bowling. He participated in many tournaments, playing in both the men's and mixed leagues. With his large booming voice, Richard spent some years doing sports for the radio station in Digby, CKDY. He was also a familiar voice at Christmas Daddies for many years. After high school, Richard attended survey school and worked in that field for six and a half years, most of which were in NB. In 1970, he moved back to Digby where he designed, built, and co-owned R&W Fish and Chips. At this time, Richard was approached about a teaching position at DRHS for which he applied, and thus became a teacher for the next 30 years. Around 1980, having a keen interest in the fishing industry, Richard became one of the founding members of the seamanship course at DRHS. For over 15 years, Richard taught this seamanship course, the first of its kind to be offered at the high school level in NS. During this time, he also taught night school to fishermen and boaters for a number of years. Richard enjoyed travelling, for many years on the motorcycle, then with the fifth wheel in later years. He loved the outdoors and working in the woods, cutting firewood and milling lumber. At 75 years old, Richard learned to bake and would share his delicious food with many. Richard's other interests included making many beautiful intarsia woodworking projects, as well as working on genealogy with his daughter. Unofficially deemed the “Mayor of Rosstown”, Richard took pride in not only the home that he and his wife built with the help of others, but in his entire community. For many years he was the caretaker of the Union Cemetery of Culloden and was very knowledgeable of the history of the small community and its residents. “He was more than my Grampie, he was my best friend.” - Chip Richard is survived by his wife, Beverly (Champion) Ross; daughter, Dawn (Tim) Gunn; grandchildren, 'Knothead' Melanie, 'Splinter' Ryan, and 'Chip' Avery all of Culloden, NS; brother, Eric (late Joan) Ross of White Rock, BC; sister-in-law, Carol Ross of Lr. Sackville; brother-in-law, Willard (Sandra) Champion of Hamilton, PEI; nieces, nephews, and many extended family. He was predeceased by a sister, Linda in infancy; and brother, Glenn. A very special thank-you to Dr. John Black, Dr. Brodarec, Dr. Sood, and the third floor nursing staff of the Yarmouth Regional Hospital for the amazing care given. Sandy Point, NS November 27, 1965 - January 24, 2024 BUTLER, Mark Brian – 58, of Sandy Point, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at Yarmouth Hospital. Born November 27, 1965 he was a son of Gary and Daphne (Wagner) Butler. Mark was a fisherman all of his life, having his career start aboard the Johnny & Sisters II, which he was proud to call family.   He was an avid hunter and loved the wilderness.  His proudest moments were of his two sons and not to be forgotten is Mom, his father (Dad) was his best friend who Mark tested to the limits but loved so dearly.  He also thought a great deal of golden retriever “Magnum” He is survived by parents, Gary and Daphne Butler; sons; Tyler (Heather), Johnny, brother, William (Mary), sister, Michelle (Richard), grandchildren; Callie and Grant, nephews; Devan, Tanner and Kobe. Predeceased by his maternal and paternal grandparents. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Shelburne. As per request there will be no service.
