In Loving Memory of Dr. Nouman Ali
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Nouman Ali, a beloved husband, father, professor, mentor, engineer, and lifelong advocate for justice, equality, and human dignity.
Dr. Ali dedicated his life to education, service, and the pursuit of knowledge. As a Professor for over 35 years in the Department of Civil and Resource Engineering at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, he inspired generations of students through his passion for teaching, his commitment to academic excellence, and his genuine care for those he mentored. Born in Iraq and educated in the United States, he carried with him a lifelong belief in the transformative power of education and was respected by colleagues and students alike for his integrity, humility, and generosity.
Beyond academia, Dr. Ali was an advocate for the Palestinian people. His passion for this cause was not political, but rooted in his unwavering belief in justice, equality, and the inherent dignity of every human being. Guided by compassion and integrity, he believed that all people deserve to live in peace, freedom, and with equal rights. His voice was one of humanity, always standing for those facing injustice, regardless of who they were or where they came from.
Outside of his professional and humanitarian pursuits, Dr. Ali found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He was an avid cyclist who embraced the freedom of the open road, a devoted movie enthusiast who appreciated stories that inspired thought and conversation, and a man with an understated yet remarkably sharp sense of humour. Those who knew him well will forever cherish his quick wit, quiet laughter, and the warmth he brought to every gathering.
Dr. Ali will be remembered as an honest and principled man whose life was guided by integrity, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to justice. His influence extends far beyond the classroom, living on in the countless students he mentored, the colleagues he inspired, the communities he served, and all those whose lives he touched.
He leaves behind his beloved wife and children, his cherished family and friends around the world, trusted colleagues, former students, and a community that is richer for having known him.
Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void, his wisdom, compassion, and principles will continue to inspire generations to come. He will forever live on in the hearts and memories of those who knew and loved him.

في ذكرى الدكتور نعمان علي
بقلوب يملؤها الحزن والأسى، ننعى فقيدنا الغالي الدكتور نعمان علي، الزوج المحب، والأب الحنون، والأستاذ الجامعي، والمهندس، والمرشد، وصاحب الرسالة الإنسانية الذي كرّس حياته للدفاع عن العدالة والمساواة وكرامة الإنسان.
على مدى أكثر من خمسة وثلاثين عاماً، كرّس الدكتور نعمان علي حياته للعلم والتعليم وخدمة المجتمع، أستاذاً في قسم الهندسة المدنية وهندسة الموارد بجامعة دالهوزي في هاليفاكس، نوفا سكوشا. ألهم أجيالاً من الطلاب بشغفه بالتعليم، والتزامه بالتميّز الأكاديمي، واهتمامه الصادق بكل من تتلمذ على يديه. وُلد في العراق، وتلقّى تعليمه في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية، وحمل معه طوال حياته إيماناً راسخاً بأن التعليم هو أعظم وسيلة لبناء الإنسان والمجتمع. وقد حظي باحترام زملائه وطلابه لما عُرف عنه من نزاهة وتواضع وكرم وأخلاق رفيعة.
وخارج نطاق عمله الأكاديمي، كان الدكتور نعمان علي مناصراً ثابتاً للشعب الفلسطيني. ولم يكن التزامه بهذه القضية نابعاً من توجه سياسي، بل من إيمانه العميق بالعدالة والمساواة والكرامة الإنسانية لكل البشر. فقد آمن بأن لكل إنسان الحق في أن يعيش بحرية وسلام وكرامة، وأن يتمتع بحقوق متساوية، وكان صوته دائماً صوتاً للإنسانية، يقف إلى جانب كل مظلوم أينما كان، بغضّ النظر عن هويته أو انتمائه.
أما في حياته الشخصية، فقد وجد سعادته في متع الحياة البسيطة. كان عاشقاً لركوب الدراجات الهوائية، ومحِبّاً للأفلام التي تثير الفكر وتفتح باب الحوار، كما امتلك حساً فكاهياً راقياً وهادئاً، سريع البديهة، ترك الابتسامة في قلوب كل من عرفه. وسيبقى دفء حضوره، وضحكته الهادئة، وروحه الطيبة، محفورة في ذاكرة أحبائه.
سيُذكر الدكتور نعمان علي دائماً كرجلٍ صادقٍ وصاحب مبادئ، عاش حياته متمسكاً بالنزاهة والرحمة والعدل. وقد تجاوز أثره حدود قاعات الدراسة، ليبقى حاضراً في حياة طلابه، وزملائه، وكل من تأثر بعلمه وأخلاقه وإنسانيته.
ترك وراءه زوجته العزيزة، وأبناءه الأحبة، وعائلته وأصدقاءه في مختلف أنحاء العالم، وزملاءه، وطلابه، ومجتمعاً أصبح أفضل بفضل حضوره وعطائه.
ورغم أن رحيله ترك فراغاً لا يُملأ، فإن حكمته، ورحمته، ومبادئه ستظل مصدر إلهام للأجيال القادمة، وستبقى ذكراه حيّة في قلوب كل من عرفه وأحبّه.
