Whitney Pier, NS
January 11, 1958 - August 11, 2024
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our Gary Bacich on August 11, 2024 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with his loving brother Donnie and Gary’s favorite sister in law Elle (Ellen) by his side.
Gary was born in Whitney Pier on January 11, 1958 and was the youngest son of Annie (Giacomantonio) and Matt Bacich.
Gary’s early career began when he worked in the technical field of CJCB Television in Sydney, a job he truly loved and enjoyed for 25 years in his role as Switcher and Producer of Community Bulletin and Co-Producer of Cape Breton Mass for Shut- Ins. Later Gary was employed for various call centers and found interest in the financial end of things helping people tirelessly re-build their credit and attain mortgages through The Mortgage Pitt Centre as well as Credit Creations where he provided education and guidance with an opportunity for a bursary for young students to establish credit .Gary also worked for a short period with Citizenship & Immigration, Sydney and his final job was at the Sydney Call Centre.
Gary lived life on his own terms and being from he followed his heart and mind striving for perfectionism every step of the way regardless of what anyone else felt. He made many friends through his work but only those who truly knew Gary could realize how entertaining he really was. We always said Gary missed his calling and should have been in acting as he had an immense sense of humor and the ability to make people laugh - and sometimes cry also. He will be missed by many but fondly and affectionately remembered by his special niece as her Mrs. Doubtfire”. Gary loved music and television but mostly just having a coffee or two over good conversations helping out those in need, especially newcomers to our area.
Gary is survived by his loving brother Donnie (Ellen), nieces, Leah , Leanne , Kelly and nephew Chris, his loving Godmother Stasia Danyluk and several cousins and grandnieces, especially Abby & Olivia and grand nephews. Gary was predeceased by his parents, his only sister Marie (Kyte) and his brother Jimmy.
Gary will be missed by us all but we are thankful for all of his close friends and acquaintances especially Theresa MacDonald and Sue Currie of Sprucehaven Drive with whom he shared a special bond. Also his “closest emotional” friends (You certainly know who you are).
We thank the paramedics, ER, and the nurses and staff of 4B, Infection Control, An Cala Palliative Care Unit, especially Dr. John Archibald, Drs Megan Keating, Dr. Colin Bonnar, Dr Milne, Dr. Anne Frances D’Intino, and all of his angel caregivers in Palliative Care. Also many thanks to Polettes Drug Store Staff, Charlotte Street. Also we would like to thank Kollin Weatherbee of Sydney Memorial Chapel for his care and compassion in making Gary’s final journey peaceful.
There will be no visitation in keeping with Gary’s wishes.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to An Cala Palliative Care Unit, CB Regional Hospital.
Funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Redeemer Parish on Friday, August 16, at 11:00 am with Father Paul Murphy officiating and burial to follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
