Bond, Elsa Marie

New Glasgow, NS

Elsa Marie Bond, 74, Linacy, passed away peacefully, Monday, July 1, 2024, in the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit, New Glasgow, with her children by her side.

 

Born in New Glasgow, she was the daughter of the late Thomas “Tucker” and Eileen Greta (Cahoon) Kyle. Elsa obtained a B.A. (Hons) and B.Ed.  from St. Francis Xavier University and a M.Ed. (Literacy) from Mount St. Vincent University. She taught grades 11 and 12 English at the former Trenton High School for many years. Elsa organized many Winter Carnivals and produced numerous musicals during her time at Trenton High.  Following retirement, she taught Adult Education at the former Brown School and enjoyed substitute teaching at North Nova Education Centre. Elsa was one of three people to receive the inaugural Excellence in Teaching Award and was nominated and honoured with Maritimer of the Week by the graduating class of 1998. In earlier years, she was actively involved with the former St. Gregory’s Parish, New Glasgow.  

 

Elsa is best remembered by her children as a generous, intelligent and witty mother, who always had their best interests at heart. She described her granddaughter, Lennon as her “pride and joy”, with whom she shared a beautiful bond. Elsa leaves a rich legacy of love and devotion.

 

Surviving are her daughter, Megan (Alan) and their daughter, Lennon, Trenton; son, Shaun (Michelle), New Glasgow; “just-like-sisters”, Cathy McMullin, New Glasgow; Liz Reim, Sylvester; Rita Heighton, Stellarton; Audrey Crosby, New Glasgow; Caroline Barclay, New Glasgow.

 

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Gordon Donald “Gordie” Bond; numerous aunts and uncles.

 

The family will receive visitors 6-8 p.m. Friday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow, from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel with Father Bernie MacAdam presiding.

 

Donations may be made in memory of Elsa towards her granddaughter’s education or Christ the King Cemetery Fund.

 

Elsa's family wish to thank the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit for the wonderful care and compassion received.
