It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother, Annie Elizabeth Bonnell on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at the age of 94.
After a long battle with dementia, she passed peacefully at the Cove Guest Home surrounded by family.
We would like to give our heartfelt thanks to the County Homemakers and the Cove Guest Home staff for their wonderful care.
Born in Sydney on January 20, 1931, Anne was the daughter of the late Peter and Elizabeth (McNeil) MacNeil.
Anne grew up on Dorchester Street in Sydney near the train station and as a young lady worked at Woolworths and Eatons. After marrying, she was a devoted housewife and mother for many years. As their children grew older, she then babysat for teachers in the community (Georgette and Robert Skinner and Cathy and Joe Larade).
During their 70 years of marriage, Anne accompanied Odie on many adventures, camping and traveling.
Anne was a member of the Westmount United Church and a former member of the UCW.
She enjoyed bowling, horse shoes, shopping, cards, board games, sewing and soap operas.
Anne is survived by her daughters, Karen (Sandy Chisholm) Bonnell, Westmount and Darlene (Clinton) MacQuin, Aylesford; son, Gary (Monique), Sudbury, ON; grandchildren, Amanda MacQuin (Vignir Jónsson), Christopher Campbell and Sandra (Colin) Husk; and great-grandchildren, Owen, Autumn and Archer Husk.
In addition to her parents, Anne was predeceased by her husband, Owen Harry Bonnell; sister, Mary (Joe) Fedora; brothers, Malcolm (Theresa), Hector (Mary Margaret), twins, Malcolm (who died in infancy) and Peter (Hazel).
Visitation will be held Sunday, November 16, 2025 from 2-5 p.m. in Sydney Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will take place Monday, November 17, 2025, at 1 p.m. in Westmount United Church with Rev. Beth Hazelhurst officiating. Interment will take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Westmount United Church or a charity of your choice.
