Cook, Darrell Blaine

Wolfville, NS

March 13, 1965 - September 24, 2024

It is with broken hearts that we announce the loss of the most kind and generous person we knew, Darrell B. Cook, of Wolfville and South West Port Mouton. Darrell passed away September 24th, 2024 at the age of 59 surrounded by family and friends, listening to the Rolling Stones and Shania Twain.

Darrell was a bright light from the day he came into this world on March 13th, 1965 in Middleton. He was larger than life, his door was always open and he was always happy to greet anyone who stopped in. When he entered a room, he lit it up. He was someone who always looked out for the needs of others before his own and was kind and generous to everyone. Darrell’s version of a good time was ensuring that everyone around him was having fun. His sense of humour was infectious; nothing made him happier than making people laugh. We always thought that he would have his own stand-up routine in his retirement.

Darrell was unconditionally committed to his family and friends. After his family, his biggest passion was his career, where he spent 38 years as a well-known and respected investment advisor. He also took great pride in supporting many golf tournaments and charities in the community.

Traveling to warm and sunny places was Darrell’s favourite way to relax. Whether cruising the Caribbean or enjoying his personal paradise in SWP, his happy place that he referred to as Heaven on Earth, Darrell was always having a good time.

Darrell loved: all sports - whether playing or watching; manning the BBQ; a medium rare steak; a Captain Morgan white; trips to drive-thru’s and meeting friends for breakfast; fishing for mackerel and compliments; his mother’s homemade bread; and entertaining his friends and family.

Darrell lived life to the fullest and left a huge void in the hearts of those who knew him, especially his loving wife and BEST friend Shari, and the other loves of his life: son, Mike, daughter, Jenalyn, and mother, Dean. He is also survived by his brother Wayne, sister Tami, sister-in-law Paula, mother-in-law Nancy Smith, brother-in-law Fraser Smith, loyal associate Sandra Mansfield, many aunts, uncles, favourite cousins, nieces and nephews, his Acadia hockey boys and "adopted kids" and the best neighbours ever! Darrell was predeceased by his father Douglas, brother Doug and father-in-law Bob Smith.

The family would like to send a special thank you to all the staff at the Halifax Infirmary ICU, especially Breanna for her kind and compassionate care.

Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request. A celebration of Darrell’s life will be held Friday, October 4th at 12:00 p.m. (AST) (noon) at the Festival Theatre on the Acadia campus in Wolfville (with livestream available). Reception to follow. Interment will take place at Gaspereau Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity that reminds you of Darrell.
