Dockwrey, Anthea

Point Edward, NS

September 17, 2024

Anthea Mary Dockwrey of Point Edward, 69, died peacefully on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, after a long battle with cancer.

Born in Sydney, daughter of the late Ardath (nee MacDonald) and George Dockwrey and sister to the late Peter Dockwrey.

Anthea made lifelong friends as she moved from her childhood in Cape Breton to her career in London, UK. Movies were in Anthea’s blood. Her grandfather, D.P. MacDonald, built the beautiful Vogue Theater on Charlotte Street in 1939. In later years, her parents George and Ardath operated the Paramount and Vogue theaters where movies were enjoyed, and the wonderful Rotary musicals were staged for many years. Anthea’s love of cinema led her to England to attend the London Film School, where she stayed and embarked on a career that took her from editing music videos for the Thompson Twins to working on documentaries in New Mexico. Her second act was in an administrative position with the NHS where she labelled everything in sight and imposed order on her colleagues.

Anthea returned to Point Edward to be with Ardath and made a whole new set of friends who supported her when she became ill. She leaves behind adoring and devoted friends on both sides of the Atlantic who will miss her terribly.

Anthea’s friends would like to thank the Cape Breton VON and the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County for their amazing and compassionate care over many months.

Those who wish to recognize Anthea are invited to donate the VON (von.ca/en/donation-form; please designate VON Cape Breton Metro) or the Hospice Palliative Care Society www.hospicecapebreton.org/ways-to-give/donate/
