Bernard Norwood "Bernie" Hawkins, 82, of Kentville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Valley Regional Hospital after a brief stay. Born in Wolfville, he was the son of the late Norman "Roy" and Bertha (Smith) Hawkins.
Bernie was a graduate of Wolfville High School and attended Acadia University. He later graduated from the pharmacy program at Dalhousie University and spent over 35 years employed as a pharmacist with several pharmacies in Kentville. Bernie enjoyed travelling, especially to Florida, Barbados, Quebec, and throughout Nova Scotia. His later years were focused on spending time at the cottage built with his father and attending antique auctions. He also enjoyed getting together with his high school friends regularly and tending his flowers in the summer.
He is survived by his son, Tony (Kathy), Dartmouth; grandsons, Jack and Troy; partner, David Winn, Virginia; several cousins and a special friend, Nathan Greenberg. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Timothy "Tim"; and his partner, James "Jim" Arklie.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation, by request. The funeral service, followed by reception, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 2, 2024, in the Wolfville Baptist Church, Reverend Doctor Scott Kindred-Barnes officiating. The burial will take place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County.
