Halifax, NS
January 19, 1935 – September 3, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, Wilfred Henley, age 90, on September 3, 2025, with family by his side.
Dad was born in Spry Bay. He joined the army at an early age. When he left the military, he worked at Capitol Stores as a warehouse manager for several years. He lived on Lawrence Street in Halifax for many years where he became friends with many of his neighbours. He attended Trinity Church for many years, helping form their Coffee House that was open to everyone every Friday night. When his daughters were just kids, he loved taking them to wrestling matches at the Halifax Forum. He loved spending time with his family. He found joy in the little things—bowling in his earlier years, golfing when he retired and playing cards with family. If he didn’t win, he was sure it was because others were cheating!
He was a devoted husband to his wife June (who preceded him in 2010), and a devoted father to his two daughters, Marilyn (Danells) and Karen, a proud grandfather to six grandchildren, and a great-grandfather to twelve great-grandchildren. Later in life, Dad was fortunate enough to find his paternal family. He was also fortunate to have a special friend, Mary, who provided wonderful companionship to him.
Dad deeply missed Mom. Her memories brought him comfort and kept him company through his final years. He is now at peace, and they are together again.
A service will be held at JA Snow’s Funeral Home on September 12th at 10:00 am, followed by a reception, then interment in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Lower Sackville.
In lieu of flowers or donations, the family asks that you share a moment of kindness in his memory.
A special thank you to the 6 West team at the Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Building that provided comfort and compassion to him during his final days.
