HETHERINGTON, Mytna Anne

Dartmouth, NS

February 5, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we inform you that Myrna passed away unexpectantly on February 5, 2024 at home. Born in Glace Bay, Myrna was the daughter of James Leo and Annie Frances (Burke) Nolan. Myrna started her schooling at St Anthony’s, attended Holy Cross and graduated from St Anne’s High School in 1957. While attending St Martha’s Convent, she graduated from St Francis Xavier University with a degree in X-ray technology.

Myrna worked at the North Sydney Hospital before moving to Vancouver, Toronto and then returning home to Cape Breton. The lure of living in the big city of Halifax was her next adventure. While working at the Halifax Infirmary, Myrna met Bill and they were married in 1974. Before retiring, Myrna worked as the Xray Supervisor at Cobequid Health Centre.

Devout in her faith, Myrna was a long time parishioner of Saint Clement’s Parish and a member of the Catholic Women’s League assisting with the Funeral Ministry. She was an active volunteer at the Nova Scotia Health Authority for over ten years after her retirement.

Myrna enjoyed dancing, music and spending time with her family. She loved to travel and would be willing to go at the drop of a hat on new adventures. Myrna was a fun loving person with a very big heart making friends wherever she went. She coordinated many fun filled luncheons with her retired coworkers over the years.

She is survived by her sisters, Janice McKenna and Mari Rose McCabe, brother Jim Nolan as well as many cherished nieces and nephews. Myrna is also survived by her step daughters, RoseAnn (Richard), Lynn and Cathy (Lester), grandchildren, Bill and Tessa. Myrna was predeceased by her parents, husband Bill, brothers-in-law, John McCabe and Larry McKenna.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Dartmouth Funeral Home where online condolences may be made at dartmouthfuneralhome.ca  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Clement’s Catholic Church, Gaston Rd on February 10, at 11:00 am. Celebrant will be Father Peter Hanna. A reception will follow in the church hall. Burial will take place at Dartmouth      Memorial Gardens.

A very special thank you to all those who provided Pastoral care to Myrna, as well to the many friends who supported her with love and care during her final months. It was so appreciated by Myrna and her family. Myrna will be missed by her family but they are thankful for the many years and laughs that they shared.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MS Society of Canada or Crohn’s and Colitis Canada.
