Sydney, NS
July 15, 1931 - July 18, 2024
It is with great sadness, the family; announce the passing of Cyril MacLean, our husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend on July 18, 2024 at The Cove Guest Home at the age of 93.
Born in Whitney Pier on July 15, 1931, he was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was the eldest son of the late Elmer + Mary Jane (MacSween) MacLean.
Cyril was a resident of Edwardsville for over 60 years and was a member of The Holy Rosary Parish, Westmount.
Cyril loved all things to do with the water, whether taking day trips on the Newfoundland ferry or building and sailing the many dorys he built in his garage.
He worked many years at The Helm Tavern in Sydney and then on to The Peridot and Ziggy’s where he made many long lasting friends, he never went anywhere without running into someone he knew.
After his retirement, his greatest hobby was his upholstery work, stained glass art and building dorys in the garage with the wood stove on. He spent many years volunteering at CBRH weekly.
In younger years, family vacations were spent camping around the Maritimes. Not being a traveler, he spent his time with family at home.
Survived by his devoted wife, Mildred (Grant), his four children, Connie (Catherine), Terry, Doug (Sheryl) and Susan (Mike) and his two grandchildren of whom he was so proud in all their accomplishments, Christina and Michael, sisters in law, Katherine and Betty Grant and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by both his parents, his younger brother, Adrian “Red” (Rose Marie) and sister, Patricia.
Big thank you to the kind and caring staff of The Orchard Unit and the kitchen staff of the Cove Guest home where he felt as close to home as he could. Sincere thank you to Dr. Greg Myatt, Nurse Janice and staff for their many years of faithful care. Also, thank you to the staff of the Sydney River Superstore Pharmacy.
No visitation by request. Funeral service will be held Monday July 22, 2024 in Sydney Memorial Chapel at 11 am, with Rev. Doug Murphy officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.
Memorials may be made to The Cove Guest Home.
