The family of Donald Allister “Donnie” MacLeod, regret to announce his passing on December 29, 2025, at Hospice Cape Breton.
Born July 7, 1950, in Sydney, NS he was a son of the late Donald Archibald “Big Donnie” and Neila (Morrison) MacLeod, of Marion Bridge.
Donnie grew up and lived his life in his favorite place, Marion Bridge, Cape Breton. After graduating from Riverview, he worked at the Steel Plant, then MT&T/Aliant until his retirement. Donnie loved being out in all the seasons of nature. He fished, hunted, trapped, worked on the family property, and always had fun on the river. He enjoyed spending special times in the community with his family, his many friends out on the Mira, and traveling abroad. He loved family gatherings, especially with his extended family through his son’s in-laws, the Standings. Donnie loved sharing parts of himself with hilarious stories, family tidbits, and helping neighbors. The phone was always ringing, and he’d say, “Hello” or “Hi Dear” in the most cheerful voice, no matter what kind of day he was having. Donnie was an active volunteer and member of his community. He coached CB Minor Hockey, was a former member of the community pasture, and the CB West PC party. He was a lifetime member of St. Columba Presbyterian Church, where he became an elder and treasurer, of which he was very proud.
Donnie is survived by his wife, Linda (Cornell) MacLeod; daughter, Trinity, Mira; son, Jordan (Megan), Marion Bridge; grandchildren, Ceilidh and Lachlan “Lachy”; brother, Jim (April), NB; brother-in-law, Wilf (Kathie), NS; and nephews, Sean and Daniel.
In addition to his parents, Donnie was predeceased by his daughter, Alicia Dawn MacLeod; niece, Jamie Lynn MacLeod; and parents-in-law, Cyril and Fonnie Cornell.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. Visitation will take place at St. Columba Presbyterian Church, Marion Bridge, on Friday, January 2nd from 4-7 p.m. Funeral service will be held at St Columba Church on Saturday, January 3rd at 11 a.m. with Rev. Lydia MacKinnon officiating. A reception will immediately follow the service in the hall beside the church. Interment will take place in the MacLeod Cemetery, Marion Bridge, at a later date.
Memorials may be made to St. Columba Presbyterian Church, Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County, or to a charity of your choice.
