MACNEIL BROGAN, Anne Marie

North Sydney, NS

April 30, 1945 - April 18, 2024


It is with heavy hearts, blessings and graciousness the world has lost a beautiful soul. Surrounded by her family, Anne Marie (Gouthro) MacNeil passed quietly and peacefully at the Hospice Wellington in Guelph, Ontario on April 18, 2024.


Anne Marie was unwavering in her will to live and was able to comfort her family and say goodbye before passing into the Kingdom of Heaven. Anne Marie was a wonderful inspiration of faith and a natural born teacher. Anne Marie loved to laugh and be around friends and family. Her spirit for happiness was contagious. Anne Marie’s heart has always been a part of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, where she started her beautiful journey. Anne Marie will always be loved, remembered and cherished by her family and friends. 


Anne Marie is predeceased by her husband Kenny, who she loved dearly for her entire life. Loving mother of Theresa (Terry), Greg (Diony) and Eliot (Jackie). Cherished grandmother of Ava, Brooklyn, Kenny, Sylus and Aaleah. Special aunt to Mary and Ron. 


Anne Marie will be missed by her sisters Kaye, May, Hilda, Ann, Frances and Gertie. Longtime friend Darlene (Bill) Heron. Sister-in-law to John (Eva) MacNeil.  Anne Marie also had numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and godchildren that she loved very much. Predeceased by her parents Mary Ann and Daniel James Gouthro and her siblings Dan, Jennie, Patsy, Sadie, John, Monica, Gregory, Tom, Peter and brother-in-law James (Ann) MacNeil, Joe (Carmella) MacLean and Rannie MacNeil. 


While living most of her life in Paris, Ontario and becoming part of the community, Anne Marie became very involved. Whether she was at the ball field, arena, swimming pool, bowling alley or assisting the CWL with a function – she was laughing and smiling. Anne Marie made many relationships and was well liked and respected by many people. Playing cards was one of the pastimes she truly enjoyed.  


Thank you, Mom, for everything you have done for us and the life and the teachings that you have given us. We will miss you dearly and you will remain a part of us and in our hearts, until we meet again!!!!  


Visitation for Anne Marie will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, Thursday, May 2, 2024, at W.J. Dooley Funeral Home,107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.  A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, May 3, at St. Mary’s Church, Frenchvale with Rev. Victor Ozonoh officiating.  Burial to follow in St. Andrew’s Cemetery, Boisdale.


Charitable donations in Anne Marie’s memory can be made to the North Sydney Food Bank.
