November 21, 1943 - January 31, 2025

With broken hearts we, the family of Judith Elizabeth McKinnon, regret to announce her passing on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Seaview Manor in Glace Bay surrounded by her loving family.

Born November 21, 1943, in Glace Bay, she was a daughter of the late Dorothy and James T. MacLeod.

Judy is survived by her daughter, Sheila (Ralph) McKinnon, Reserve Mines; son, Michael (Annie) McKinnon, Coldbrook, NS; and daughter, Colette (Frankie) Martin, Glace Bay; grandchildren, Holly, Hannah, Kenna, Elysia, Graham and Lydia; and great-grandchild, Isabella. Judy is also survived by her brother, Donnie MacLeod, Glace Bay; sister, Elaine (Carl) Bungay, Grand Bank, NL; and brother-in-law, Terry (Joan) McKinnon, Ottawa, Ont.

In addition to her parents, Judy was predeceased by her husband, Arnold McKinnon; brothers, Tommy, Jimmy, Jackie and Ronnie MacLeod; and sister, Dorothy Hodder.

With great love and appreciation, the family would like to thank the staff of Seaview Manor for the extraordinary care and compassion showed to our mother over the years.

Judy was a true lady and one of the hardest working women ever, working well into her seventies from the tender age of sixteen. Judy started her career at Woolworth's lunch counter and then went on to open Judy's Family Restaurant which she proudly ran from 1981-1995. Judy was a great cook and met many customers over the years that would later become family. To say this lady will be missed is an understatement.

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. As per her wishes there will be no visitation or service at this time.

Judy was a funny, genuine and kindhearted woman who showed her love by cooking for people. In her memory we ask everyone to do a random act of kindness for someone with her in mind.

After sixty years in the kitchen, Judy can finally hang up her apron, pour a glass of rum and relax.
