July 19, 1929 - December 13, 2025
Lloyd Raymond Morrison, 96, of Coxheath, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 13, 2025, at the Northside General Hospital in Cape Breton.
Born July 19, 1929, he was the son of the late William and Clara Morrison.
Lloyd spent his early childhood on his much-loved family farm in Kempt Head. Like many of his generation, he and his family moved to the United States in search of work. He lived throughout the mid-west states and travelled to Texas and West to California with his older brother in search of employment. After graduating from high school in Nebraska, Lloyd returned to Canada and later graduated from Ranger School in Fredericton, NB.
He returned home to Cape Breton, where he married his beloved wife of 55 years, Sarah Taylor of Kempt Head. Lloyd devoted his career to Nova Scotia Natural Recourses, beginning his work in Baddeck and later transferring to Sydney, where he spent the majority of his 36-year career. One of the highlights of Lloyd’s career was his involvement in the development of the location used to host the World-Wide Girl Guides Jamboree in 1977, which later became the Two Rivers Wildlife Park.
Lloyd and Sarah settled in the Coxheath where they raised their seven children. A true woodsman and steward of the land, Lloyd loved the outdoors and the environment. He could often be found working on one of his woodlots with his sons and daughters, harvesting wood or doing silviculture work. With his favorite axe in hand, he could always be counted on to start a warm fire in any weather.
Lloyd was predeceased by his wife, Sarah; daughter, Marie MacLean; sisters, Florence Schirmer, Gertrude Morrison, Phylis Dunlop and Murial Morrison; brother, Buster Morrison; and son-in-law, Rickey Campbell.
He is survived by his children, William (Connie) Morrison, Stephen (Jennifer) Morrison, Janice (Rickey) Campbell, James Morrison, Nadine (Kari) Easthouse and Darryl (Heidi) Morrison; son-in-law, Francis (Marie) McLean; his loving grandchildren, Asheley, Courtland, Riley, Gillian, Sidney, Jake, Edie, Molly and Coco. He is also survived by in-laws, Katherine Grant, Billy (Barb) Taylor, Barbara (Lorne) Redmond, George (Cathy) Taylor and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family extends special thanks to Janice and James for their dedication, care, and support which allowed Lloyd to remain in his own home as long as possible.
A celebration of Lloyd’s life will be held at a later date.
