It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Darlene. She took her final breaths peacefully on May 26, 2025, surrounded by her children and loved ones.
Darlene was born and raised in Canso, Nova Scotia. She excelled in school, growing up with a deep love for music, family, and animals.
Later she pursued her studies at Mount Saint Vincent University, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration. She began raising her three children in Port Hawkesbury, NS before moving to Bedford in 1992, where she became a fiercely devoted single mother. Darlene worked tirelessly to provide for her family, creating a warm, open home filled with laughter and unconditional love.
Known for her generous spirit and quick wit, Darlene welcomed everyone into her home. Whether offering a genuine smile, or the swift furrow of her brow that said, “you know better,” she had a way of making people feel seen and safe.
Her heart was fullest when her home overflowed with friends, family, and pets. Darlene loved to cook, bake, and entertain.
When her own children were grown, Darlene opened her home to international students, offering them love, guidance, and a sense of family when theirs were far away.
She mothered with grace, humor, and the kind of wisdom that came from living a full and generous life.
Darlene loved the beach and her cottage, cherishing the Scotian summers. Christmas and weekend visits with her family in Canso were joyful but with all her life’s joys, none were greater than her grandchildren. She spoke of them constantly and counted the days between visits.
Left to mourn are her loving children, Olivia (Corrie) Tynes, Taylor (Emily), and Tamara (Tom Casey), as well as her treasured grandchildren Myah and Maddex Tynes, Eva and Roman.
She is also survived by her sisters Lynn, Cora, Brenda, Kelley, and Pat; her brothers Doug, Troy, and Michael; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
Please join us for an evening of sharing memories as we celebrate our Mothers life on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, 4:00p.m. to 7:00p.m at Black Sheep Restaurant, 1496 Lower Water St., Halifax.
