Kentville, NS
February 5, 2024
Graham "Gray" Morris Reeve, of Kentville, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on February 5, 2024 at the Valley Hospice, surrounded by the love of his family; wife, Marilyn; children, Brent of Rockland, NS, Blair (Lily) of Markham, ON and Rachel of Greenwich NS; four handsome grandsons, Nick and Nathan Li of California, USA and Johnathan and Matthew Reeve of Markham, ON; as well as his special four legged friend, Gizmo.
Gray loved meeting and talking to people, which made his career in marketing and sales a natural choice. He worked as a marketing director for CIL, the federal government and Shell Oil. Gray, along with two partners purchased a subsidiary of Shell and turned it into a prosperous business called Vocatext, which pioneered voicemail in Canada. Upon moving to Nova Scotia, he worked as a realtor for Royal LePage, Merrill and Hennessey and later Homelife.
Leisure time in Caledon, ON, was spent boating in Georgian Bay, dinging several props and chasing Marilyn’s horses after their many escapes. He continued to enjoy exercising and cycling up until seven months ago in Nova Scotia.
Besides his family, the other great love of his life was music. Over the years he collected 4000 records, from 78s to 45s to LPs covering every genre of music from classical to the current. Frank Sinatra, Mat Monro and Nat King Cole were his favourites. Since moving to Nova Scotia, he sang with the Dukes of Kent, the Shiretown Singers and the North Mountain Chorus, making friends along the way.
Potluck, gourmet dinners and other social activities with the Wolfville Newcomers Club, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and the Miners Landing Social Club meant a great deal to both Gray and Marilyn. Even recently he wanted to know when the next social event was scheduled.
His involvement in the community positively affected many. He was a former member of Valley Search and Rescue. Most recently he has been actively involved with Red Cross, from supporting local victims of housefires to deployments in Manitoba, during the wildfires and to Prince Edward Island and Halifax after Hurricane Fiona. He was there to welcome the Ukrainians. Even in the last week he talkedabout being deployed again.
Gray was predeceased by his parents, Murial (Morris) and Albert Reeve of Victoria, BC; sister, Geraldine "Gerry" LaFleur of Ottawa, ON; as well as his mother and father-in-law, Marjorie and Frank Wilson of Georgetown, ON.
The family would like to thank the many doctors and nurses who provided Graham "Gray" care during the last few months. Most Particularly the staff of the Valley Hospice, whose care and love made him so comfortable- playing his music, positioning him so he could see the wildlife and letting him have tomato soup and chocolate pudding for breakfast. It is truly "a bit of heaven on earth."
Cremation has taken place under the care of the White Family Funeral Home. By request there will be no visitation or service. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Donations in memory may be made to Valley Hospice Foundation, Red Cross or Kings County SPCA.
