Dartmouth, NS
January 7, 1939 - March 15, 2024
It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Charlie “Dimp” Roberts. Surrounded by the love of his family, Charlie passed away suddenly but peacefully at Oakwood Terrace in Dartmouth, NS on March 15, 2024.
Born in Canso, NS on January 7, 1939, Charlie was a son of the late Appleton and Doris (Goodwin) Roberts.
In addition to his parents, Charlie was predeceased by his wife Carol Ann (Best), his brother Howard (Rob) (Sonny) Roberts (Rita), brothers-in-law Harold Bellefontaine (Thelma) and Tom McDonnell (Patty), nephew Scott Mansley, several aunts and uncles.
He is survived, and will be deeply missed, by his children Gail Best (Craig Peacock), Andrew Higginbotham (Karen), Doug Roberts (Shannon); sisters Thelma Bellefontaine, Carole Thibodeau (Paul), Pearl MacKeigan (Peter), Patty McDonnell; aunt Mayola Dobson (Bill); 7 grandchildren: Rylie, Christopher, Kyle, Brona, Liam, Kolin, Kialah; numerous nieces and nephews.
Charlie was a sheet metal worker all his working life and proud member of the Sheet Metal Workers International Association – Local 409. Upon graduating from NSIT, and being recognized for outstanding achievement, he was offered a teaching position with NSIT which he declined. Charlie enjoyed working with his hands and could not envision himself working in an office environment. He was a long-term member of Somme Branch Legion #31, Dartmouth, and could often be found there with his dancing boots on; he loved listening to all genres of music.
Those who knew and loved him appreciated his goodness and kindness; Charlie was always there to help his family and friends, and often strangers, in any way he could. He loved his family more than anything and always went out of his way to lend a helping hand.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff of Oakwood Terrace – Unit C, who took outstanding and compassionate care of Charlie during his one year stay and especially during his final hours; in particular Heather, Mennie, Kelly, Nancy, Rucci. We appreciate all the love you showed him.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Dartmouth Funeral Home, 29 Queen Street, Dartmouth, NS. Remains have been cremated. Burial in Christ Church Cemetery will be held Monday, April 1, 2024 at 1:00 pm, followed by a Celebration of Life in Christ Church Parish Hall at 2:00 pm, 61 Dundas Street, Dartmouth, NS.
