Walsh, Arnold Douglas

Sydney, NS

August 30, 1952 - January 03, 2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Arnold Douglas Walsh on January 3, 2026, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney.

Born in Sydney on August 30, 1952, he was the son of the late Ray and Jean (Powell) Walsh.

Arnold is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carol Ann (Martin); daughter, Victoria Walsh and son-in-law, Thomas Clarke, Sydney; sisters, Brenda Walsh and Heather Walsh, both of Sydney; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Sharon and Linda, both of Sydney; and brothers-in-law who he loved dearly, Terry, Loch Lomond, Paul, Wayne, Raymond and Glen, all of Sydney. Wayne made sure Carol Ann was able to get Arnold out on Sundays for his cherished drives.

He was predeceased by brothers, Barry, Ontario, Dennis, Glenn and Tim, all of Sydney.

Arnold’s passions were golfing, fishing, camping and railroading and he did them all with gusto. His career as a brakeman and later as an engineer for CN Rail and Cape Breton and Central Nova Scotia Railway was one he loved and talked about endlessly. He was a quiet man with a kind heart and when he spoke, he usually had something important to say. He endured his illness with grace and humility with never a complaint. We will be eternally grateful to Steelworkers Lane for their compassionate care while he was with them.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 7th from 2-4 in the chapel. A graveside service will be held for the family at a later date.

Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation or a favourite charity.
