- MOORE, Barbara Jeane
Springhill, NS June 17, 2024 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Barbara Jeane Moore, 81 years, of Springhill, on Tuesday, June 17, 2024 in The East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash. Born in Springhill, she was a daughter of the late Horace G. and Hazel (Ward) Brown. Barb's most important love was her family. Michael, her husband of 38 years, was her rock. Their passion for one another was strong and lasted until the moment she passed. They are reunited once again. She adored being a mom and a nana, making arts and crafts with the kids, giving them a hug, when they (or she) needed it. She gave back endlessly to the community volunteering for CGIT, Allied Youth, IODE, and being an Elementary Teacher. If she heard someone wasn't well, she would try to reach out to them and extend her care and support. An active member of St. Andrews Wesley United Church, she participated over the years in just about every facet of the church. Their cottage along the Pugwash shore brought her and her family many years of joy. She was a great believer in preserving memories, either through her photography or writing. She received great therapy composing poetry, writing letters, or journaling. Her endless past times included puzzling, and planning any event she could help with. Her sweet tooth loved ice cream, enjoying a diet pepsi, and a taste of pumpkin pie. She will be dearly missed by her son Andrew (Bonnie) Moore, Springhill; grandchildren, Emily (Rob) Hudson, Meaghan Moore, Seamus (Rita Clare LeBlanc) and Anna Moore; great grandchildren Angus and Piper Mills, Graham and Theo Hudson; a sister, Sidney Myatt, Dartmouth, NS. She was predeceased by her husband Michael Moore and great grandson Finley. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of A. H. Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane Street, Springhill, (902 597 2361) where visitation will take place on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 from 6 to 8 pm. Her Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at 2 pm, the Reverend K. Ruth Gamble officiating. Burial will take place in the Rodney Cemetery. Donations in memory of Barb may be made to the St. Andrew's Wesley United Church, Alzheimer's Society, or the charity of your choice.
- FLEET, Irvine Elwood
New Glasgow, NS March 11, 1933 - June 17, 2024 His family is saddened to announce the passing of Irvine Elwood Fleet on June 17, 2024 at the Aberdeen Hospital with family by his side. Born March 11, 1933 in Louisbourg to the late Jennie (Pearl) and Ivan E. Fleet, he spent his youth in Louisbourg before the family moved to Trenton after the War. He often spoke of the years during high school and the early years of working and evenings spent cruising in one of Gramp’s cars and hanging out with friends at McCarron’s Restaurant. At one point, he and his brother bought a car that they worked on and a friend drove in the stock car races. They were also expected to help in the family store with stocking and deliveries. He started working shortly after graduation at Hawker Siddeley delivering mail, eventually working up to Employee Benefits Supervisor from where he retired after more than 40 years. For many years after retirement, the phone would ring at home from people needing assistance about their pensions and he would always try to help them as much as he could. The middle years saw him working hard and raising his brood of five. The little down time he had found him gardening, bowling, day trips with family and watching his Blue Jays games. He was also an active member of First United Church. Shortly after his retirement, his wife Jean suffered an aneurysm and her care became his focus. Due to his love and care, she was able to stay at home for over 20 years before she went into the nursing home. He was always a little lost after that. In September 2021 dementia changed everything. After a time in hospital, he took up residence at the Veterans Unit in Pictou where his dry sense of humor was greatly enjoyed by the staff. He is survived by children: Douglas, Ian, Bruce and Donna; grandchildren: David (Josee), Emily, Matthew (Cassie), Madison and Embry; and first great-grandson, Finnigan; sisters: Barbara (Avedis) Balmanoukian and Muriel Hetu; former daughters-in-law: Tracy and Kathy; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife of 62 years, Jean (Martin); daughter, Lynn; sister, Helen; brother, Harvey. Funeral 2pm Friday, June 21, in R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow, with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Burial in Hillside Cemetery. If you care to do something in Irvine’s memory, donations may be made to First United Church, Trenton, Heart and Stroke Foundation or the SPCA. Please remember him by thinking of something he often said to us: "You may think you don’t have much, but there is always someone who has less" …so always be kind and as generous as you can be to others.
- SHIPLEY, Florence (Flo)
New Glasgow, NS Sept. 27th, 1924 - June 15th, 2024 It’s never easy to say goodbye, even at 99. Florence "Flo" Elizabeth Shipley made her journey home on June 15th, 2024, at Shiretown Nursing Home at the age of 99. Flo wrote the most amazing life story. Born and raised in Abercrombie to the late Clarence and Helen (Ellen) Dunbar, at the age of 18 she set sail to England at the beginning of the Second World War to be with and later marry, Jack Vince. Years of Air Force life allowed Flo to live in various parts of Canada where she made many lifelong friends. Years later, life changed as it can, and Flo moved to Halifax. This is where she met Gerald "Gerry" Shipley. They married in Hawaii and spent many years traveling the world. Flo was a true lady. She was always dressed up, hair was curled, makeup and jewelry on and nails perfectly shaped and painted. Flo’s biggest part of her story was the connections that she made with people. Whether it was a visit, a phone call, a card or a kiss and a wave goodbye, you knew she cared. She always made sure to stay in contact with those she met over the years and she cherished every one of those friendships. Her last few years were spent at Shiretown Nursing Home where her son, Fred, visited almost daily as their bond was exceptional. Flo made many more heartfelt connections with the staff who took great care of her. Flo is survived by her son, Fred Vince (Trudy); granddaughters: Hayley Finley (Trevor) and Jodi MacIvor (David); great-granddaughters: Gracie, Hannah and Emma; great-grandson, Jack; step-grandson, Justin DeYoung (Shannon) and step-great-grandchildren Olan, Willow and Cullen; sister-in-law, Alberta; several nieces and nephews and many dear friends. Flo was predeceased by her husband, Gerald Shipley; sisters: Lydia McChesney, Georgina Connors and brother, Clarence "Pat" Dunbar; brothers-in-law: Stewart Connors and Lolly McChesney; several nephews and her great-granddaughter, Molly MacIvor. There will be no service as per her wishes. Cremation has taken place and a family committal service will be held in the Abercrombie Cemetery. In memory of Flo, please pick up the phone to call someone, send a card in the mail or sit and look someone in the eyes and have a conversation with them. These are the important things that will be cherished forever. Arrangements are under the direction of R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. "I know for certain that we never lose the people we love, even to death. They continue to participate in every act, thought and decision we make. Their love leaves an indelible imprint in our memories. We find comfort in knowing that our lives have been enriched by having shared their love." Leo Buscaglia

Grandparents, Dan R and Pearl Dorton; Donald and Colletta Timmons; uncle, Jim Dorton; Godfather/Uncle, Hughie Dorton; Uncle, Gordon Smith; Godmother, Peggy Roach; Special Grandmother by choice, Viola Fraser; Great Uncle Walter Dorton. Colleen had the gift to gab. She could spark up a conversation with anyone. She had friends everywhere. During her life she overcame obstacles, no one else thought possible. She was very strong willed and determined. Colleen enjoyed her life and impressed many, who had the pleasure of meeting her. She had worked at Walmart in Port Hawkesbury for sixteen years. She brought so many smiles to peoples faces who stopped by to have a chat. She fought hard those 16 years, giving her all even through her tough days, always showing up with a smile. Colleen enjoyed the simple things in life. She was her happiest heading out on the weekends with her mother to enjoy late nights at the Port Hawkesbury Legion or the Carriage House, sitting around and gossiping with her friends. She loved listening and dancing to the music. She would never turn down an opportunity to dance the night away. Colleen was always daddy’s girl. The first born to steal Danny’s heart. He took so much pride in all her accomplishments. He was Colleen’s private taxi, making sure she got out on the weekends to enjoy herself, giving her the opportunity to go to Granville Green, work at Walmart, taking drives to see family and making sure she had the best Christmas possible. She had her father wrapped around her fingers. Colleen's whole life revolved around her 3 nieces. The days they were born, she was the proudest. Sophia - the oldest, her God Daughter, spent endless days and nights never being apart. They enjoyed going out shopping together and Snapchat filters. Always being each other's listening ears and can't forget the love they shared with cuddles, kisses and hugs. They were each other's rock. The bond these two shared will never be broken and will live on in Sophia's heart forever. Arabella was Colleen’s sidekick. She enjoyed being snuggled so close to Colleen and sharing endless laughs while scrolling through Snapchat, finding the silliest filters and bursting out laughing. Bella also enjoyed and took part in doing anything possible for Colleen. She would be the first to the kitchen to make Colleen a coffee, some toast and an egg. Colleen was the absolute best Aunt to Sophia and Bella, giving them anything and everything. She spoiled those girls at Christmas time, birthdays, you name it, she never hesitated to spend a dollar on them. She was the proudest aunt you could ever ask for. She will be missed, so dearly. While growing up in Port Hawkesbury, she always had her twin sisters. Crystal and Diane grew up always having the respect and drive to appreciate people of all abilities. Colleen was their hero. They looked up to her and made sure she was always included. Crystal and her brother-in-law, Josh, had a special bond with Colleen. Taking her into their care after her mother passed away. From the day she moved in, she knew she was safe. She had so much love for both. She always said she was treated like a Queen. She enjoyed her hot dogs and her Pepsi. Josh treated her like his own. She was so loved. It was never a dull moment being an aunt to 5 dogs, she loved each and every one and they made her so happy. She will be missed by Porky, Benji, Remi, Sasha and Scotch. Her newest niece, Rielle, came early at 27 weeks. She wanted to make sure Colleen got a glimpse of her with pictures and facetimes. Colleen was so proud of Rielle. Always making sure she was doing okay. She couldn't wait to hold her and spoil her too. Colleen and her sister Diane loved each other immensely. She was so proud of the mother Diane became. Diane made sure Colleen always had the most beautiful pictures, and Aunty gifts. She made Colleen feel so blessed. She will also miss her fur Nephew Harley, who always put a smile on her face. Colleen’s most favorite pastime was talking on Facetime, seeing her friends and family light up with each call. It got Colleen through some dark days. She was the happiest talking to Harriet Timmons. She could never get enough. She would enjoy every minute of their chats four or five times a day. Harriet kept Colleen calm, happy, loved and adored. The family can’t thank her enough for her support. If she wasn’t talking to Harriet, she would be Facetiming her cousin Irene, aunt Linda or Sophia and Bella with Harley in the background. The family would like to thank everyone who supported Colleen, including friends, Sheila MacNeil and Tanya DeCoste, who went above and beyond for Colleen during her hospital stays. Her Aunt Sharon and Aunt Crystal, who never left her side when the scary times came. Her cousin Dakota for being her hairstylist. The Knocton family for their love and support, especially Seraya, who made Colleen feel the most beautiful she had felt in years. A special thanks to, Evelyn MacRae for visiting her at her bedside and enjoying some songs and letting Colleen have one last dance. Colleen will be forever missed by everyone. Fly high with Momma Colleen. She needed you! A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
