Susan Marie Armstrong, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and educator, passed away on June 7, 2025, at South Shore Regional Hospital after a sudden illness. Born on December 24, 1959, in Chester, Nova Scotia to the late Phillip and Lorraine Rafuse, Susan touched the lives of many with her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love.
Susan was the loving wife of 25 years, to the late David Robert Armstrong, and the devoted mother of her daughters, Kelcey (Nathan) Shatford of Hubbards and Ellen (Jake) Kirker of Lower Sackville. She was the cherished sister of Becky (Thomas) Hamilton of Darlings Lake and Mona (Hally) Armstrong. Susan was also an incredible Nana to Jackson, Bennett, Maisie, and Charles, who brought immeasurable joy and laughter into her life. She was a loving aunt to her nieces Jessica, Amy, as well as a proud great aunt to Jonah. Susan’s declining health in recent years was made easier by her cherished friendships.
As an educator for more then 30 years, Susan dedicated herself to shaping the minds and hearts of countless students, leaving an indelible mark on the community. Her passion for teaching and nurturing young minds was evident in the countless lives she touched throughout her career.
Susan found immense joy in traveling with her family, creating cherished memories that will be forever treasured. Her love for her church, where she sang in the choir at Chester United Baptist Church, was a testament to her faith and the importance of community. Susan took great pride in her home and yard, enjoying family time outside, a fresh cut lawn, and her gardens.
Above all, Susan's greatest love was her grandchildren. She adored them with every fiber of her being and found pure happiness in their laughter and presence. Her love for them knew no bounds, and she leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that will continue to inspire and guide them throughout their lives.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses at the South Shore Regional Hospital for the compassionate care they provided to Susan during her time of need.
A funeral service to honor and celebrate Susan's life will be held on July 5th at 2:00 pm at the Chester United Baptist Church, 84 King Street, Chester, NS, with Rev. Sheila Ago officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Chester Area Middle School or Chester United Baptist Church in Susan's memory.
Susan will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her kindness, compassion, and unwavering love will forever remain in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
May she rest in peace, knowing that her legacy of love and light will continue to shine brightly through her family and all those whose lives she touched.
