Whitney Pier , NS September 21, 1944 - August 18, 2025 It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Ernest Carl Sampson, on Monday, August 18, 2025, at the age of 80. Ernie was the devoted husband of Colleen (Long) Sampson and a loving father to Laura (Blain), Denise, and Leeann (Neil). He cherished his grandchildren, Conchetta, Carl (Timika), Travis (Jamie), Breanna (Pat), Chloe, and Austin. Among his greatest joys were his great-grandchildren, Rylan, Lila, Khai, Jett, Travis, Reece, Casey, Asher, Phoenix, and Denver. Ernie is also deeply missed by his beloved sisters, Kay MacVicar, and Marion Lawson, along with his nieces and nephews. Ernie was predeceased by his parents, Leonard (Peg) and Mary Emma, and his brother, Ronnie Sampson. A hardworking man, Ernie spent most of his career with CBRM’s Public Works Department as a maintenance equipment operator. He took great pride in his work and served his community with dedication. An avid outdoorsman, Ernie loved hunting and fishing, especially with his close circle of friends, with whom he shared countless cherished memories and who were always kind to him. He especially loved his time spent in Wreck Cove and Loch Lomond. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the Renal Dialysis Team at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for their exceptional care, as well as the VON nurses who provided daily foot care to Ernie. Special thanks to Myra from Continuing Care for her compassion and kindness — we are forever grateful. Dad was a private man, and in keeping with his wishes, the family will be having a private gathering to celebrate his life. Amherst, NS August 15, 2025 It is with deep sympathy that we announce the passing of Percy Joseph Landry , age 89, of Amherst, NS.  Percy passed away peacefully at Gables Lodge, Amherst on Friday, August 15, 2025. Born in Amherst, he was a son of the late Percy F and Mary (Scopie) Landry. In his younger years, Percy was a shoe salesman in Ontario.  After he and Wenda returned to Amherst, he worked with the Amherst Daily News for 41 years, retiring as Circulation Manager.  He was a member of the Holy Family Parish.  He loved the outdoors, tending to the gardens in his yard, and often providing gardening tips and advice to his friends, and family.  He also loved time in the woods hunting and fishing. Percy will be dearly missed by his wife, the former Wenda Rector, Amherst; sister Anne Marie Garcia (Francisco), Edmonton, AB; his niece, who was like a daughter to he and Wenda, Kim (Colin) McCormick and their two children Maria and Matthew; as well as nieces and nephews Theresa Landry, Mary Louise (Allan) Porter, Richard (Evange) Landry, Susan (Chris) Chapman, and Donna (JD) Surrette; brother in law Doug Hyatt; sisters in law Carolyn Smith, Alice Smith and Brenda Lee Rector; nephews Greg and Jonathan Rector. The truest friend anyone could ever ask for, James Morris has been there for Percy for over 50 years.  They helped each other out through the good and the bad. He was predeceased by his brother Robert and his wife Marcella; step brother David "Bud" Smith; brother in law Clayton Smith, and sister in law Violetta Hyatt. Percy wasn't just a resident, he was like a family member to the many staff and nurses at Gables Lodge.  They loved spending time with him as much as he loved their attention, from treats to special visits even on their days off.  A true heartfelt thanks from his family for making him feel so important. Funeral Liturgy of the Word will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at 2 PM from the Holy Family Parish Church, Deacon Howard Gotell officiating.  Burial will take place in the St. Charles-Nativity Cemetery. Port Williams, NS February 06, 1954 - August 15, 2025 Anne Marie (Dean) O’Donnell - Age 71, of Port Williams, formerly of Middleton, passed away on Friday, August 15, 2025 at Valley Hospice, in Kentville, NS (at a time of her choosing). Born on February 6, 1954 in Redhill, Surrey, England, she was the eldest child of the late Albert Andrew "Andy" and Lelia Veronica (O’Brien) Dean. Anne immigrated through Pier 21 to Fredericton, NB with her parents and brother, Tony in 1957. She retired in 2009 as library technician at Annapolis East Elementary in Middleton. Her hobbies included reading, gardening, knitting, crocheting, rug hooking and needle work. She enjoyed researching family and recording it in MyHeritage. Family time & good friends were very important to her. Anne is survived by her loving husband since 1978, Craig; her son, Kenny (Zarina) O’Donnell, and granddaughter, Peyton O’Donnell; her daughter, Heather O’Donnell (Jenn Coolen), and grandson, Myles Dean Coolen. She also leaves siblings: Anthony "Tony" (Bette) Dean, Port Stanley, ON; Linda Galloway, Stratford, PE; Kevin (Dawne) Dean, Arlington, NS; Karen (Noel) Doiron, Winsloe, PE; Kenneth (Sandi), Kingsport, NS. She was predeceased by her sister, Louise Schaffner. The family would like to thank the many friends and family members who were there to see Anne through her final weeks and days. Baddeck, NS May 7, 1991 - August 9, 2025 We, the family are heart broken to announce Cassandra’s sudden passing at home in Baddeck on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025, at the age of 34. Born May 7, 1991, Cassandra is the daughter of Joyce (MacLeod) and the late Joseph MacAskill. Along with her mother, Cassandra is survived by her beloved grandmother, Margaret MacLeod of Baddeck, formerly from Tarbot; uncle, David (Jed) and Carmel Miller and their family, New Waterford; great-aunt, Sadie MacLean, Big Baddeck; as well as several other aunts, uncles and cousins. Besides her father, Cassandra was predeceased by her older brother, Gregory in infancy; paternal grandparents, John Peter and Tena MacAskill, North River; maternal grandfather, Murdock (Bucky) MacLeod, Tarbot; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins. Cassandra grew up in Tarbot and attended Baddeck Academy and Memorial High School in Sydney Mines from where she graduated. She had a love of all animals, but especially cats and dogs and will be missed by her fur baby, Mia. The family would like to thank EHS and the RCMP for their professionalism on Saturday. Port Hawkesbury, NS August 12, 2025 It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Kimberley Nicole Mattie of Port Hawkesbury and formerly of Monastery, on August 12, 2025.  She was a beloved daughter, devoted mother, and a light in the lives of all who knew her. Known for her radiant smile and warm spirit, Nicole had a unique way of making each moment special.  Her smile shined a little brighter watching Logan on the ice playing hockey, cheering for Riley on the baseball field, building Legos with Lylah, or simply enjoying quiet drives and heartfelt talks with Zoey.  Her children will always remember the way she loved them – completely, unconditionally, and with every ounce of her being. Nicole will especially be remembered as a proud "daddy’s girl", with a bond with her father that remained strong throughout her life.  She also shared a connection with her mother, Darlene.  Nicole inherited Darlene’s quick wit and fiery attitude, a combination that made her both fiercely strong and endlessly entertaining.  Whether she was making someone laugh or standing her ground, Nicole did it with a spark. Her presence, her laughter, and the love she gave so freely will be deeply missed by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Nicole is survived by her loving parents, Danny and Darlene (Glenn) Mattie, and her four greatest achievements – her children:  Logan, Zoey, Lylah, and Riley.  She poured her heart into raising them, and she loved them more deeply than words could ever express. Halifax, NS November 13, 1956 - August 05, 2025 We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Greg MacAdam, who left us peacefully in the early morning hours of August 5, 2025, at the age of 68, surrounded by love at Hospice Halifax. Born on November 13, 1956, in Antigonish County, Nova Scotia, Greg grew up with a deep love for the outdoors. An avid hunter and woodsman, his happiest days were spent at “the camp” in Musquodoboit, sharing stories, laughter, and the kind of quiet only the forest can give. Greg is survived by his loving wife, Valerie; daughters Kate (Doug) and Krista (Nick); and his four cherished grandchildren, Luna, Vennor, Melody, and Keith, who brought him endless pride and joy. He will also be deeply missed by extended family and friends who will remember his humor, determination, and fiercely loyal heart. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Hospice Halifax and the QEII palliative care team for their exceptional care, compassion, and support during Greg’s final months and days. Kentville, Nova Scotia April 19, 1944 - August 10, 2025 With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Ada Elizabeth (Stevens) Durno, who peacefully left us on August 10, 2025, at the age of 81. Born in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, on April 19, 1944, Ada grew up in the close-knit community of Marriotts Cove. She later moved to Halifax to work at Maritime Tel and Tel, before relocating to Kentville to attend Mack Business College. It was here that she met the love of her life, John Miles Durno, with whom she shared 56 wonderful years of marriage. Ada made Kentville her home for many years, where she raised her family and built lasting connections. Ada was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph Darreld Stevens and Helen (Armstrong) Stevens, and her siblings Percy Stevens, George (Joan) Stevens, R. David Stevens, H. Marie (Herman) Iyoupe, and Edith (Raymond) Zinck. She is survived by her beloved sister, Jean Stevens (Aldo Manara), her daughters Kimberly (Robert) Meyer and Margaret (Jeffrey) Greenlaw, and her cherished grandchildren, Haily, Julie, and Zachary. Ada’s career as a medical secretary in Kentville saw her working alongside various doctors, eventually finishing her career with Dr. George. Her commitment to her work was only matched by her dedication to her family. She was actively involved in her daughters’ lives, volunteering for their skating club, driving them to sporting events, and cheering them on from the sidelines. Her love for fitness was also evident, as she spent many mornings at the gym, where she forged lasting friendships that meant the world to her. A loyal and true friend, Ada’s warmth and kindness left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her. Her dearest and oldest friend, Hilda, was a source of comfort in Ada’s final days, and the many friends who visited her during her hospital stay after her stroke spoke volumes of the incredible relationships she nurtured over the years. Ada’s devotion extended to her role as a wife, where she lovingly cared for her husband, John, throughout his illness. Ada passed away after suffering a stroke, surrounded by the love of her daughters and granddaughter. She will be forever missed by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched. A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 25, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the Elm Grove Cemetery, followed by a reception at the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville to celebrate Ada’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the  CNIB (Canadian National Institute for the Blind) or the  Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Bear River, NS March 19, 1974 – August 10, 2025 The family of Jennifer Hope Morine of Bear River is saddened to announce her passing on August 10, 2025 at the age of 51 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her father Bernie Morine, daughter Maggie, brothers Thomas, Jeremy (Geraldine) and Benjamin, sisters Loralie (Monte) and Kerry; nieces and nephews Montanna, Marlie, Moses, Maryn, Sianna, Breelyn, Dilan and Jude; as well as numerous relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her mother Beverly Morine, love of her life Michael Comeau, grandparents Arthur and Audrey Jefferson; Gordon and Idella Morine. Jen worked as a Medical Transcriptionist for the last several years; extremely smart and gifted from the earliest years of her life. She had a strong faith in Jesus and found strength in knowing He is the truth, the way and the light. Jen was humble, loving and kind - always a non-judgmental soul - she could see the good in everyone she met. Jen beat addiction, attended AA and wanted to help others - to her special friends (friends of Bill W): Never give up! A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Springhill, NS August 03, 2025 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Gary Lee Copeland, 81 years, of Springhill, on Sunday, August 3rd, 2025, in High Crest Nursing Home, surrounded by his loved ones. Born in Springhill, he was a son of the late Ernest and Rose (MacLeod) Copeland. Gary was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, friend, and active member of his community. A man of unwavering integrity and strength, Gary had a profound impact on the lives of all who knew him. Gary's dedication to service was illustrated by his remarkable career as a Springhill Police Officer, which spanned over 50 years. For 15 of those years, he proudly held the title of Chief of Police. His distinguished career, which concluded with his retirement in 2015, was marked by many accomplishments, including serving as president of the Nova Scotia Chiefs of Police Association and being recognized as the longest-serving active Police Officer in Nova Scotia. While he held numerous accomplishments, the honor he cherished most was the award he received for saving children from a burning building, a true testament to his courage and character. Of all the titles he held, his most cherished were husband, father, and grandfather, or "Puckie" as all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren affectionately called him. He was the loving husband of Dorothy Copeland, with whom he would have celebrated 58 years of marriage this month. His family was his greatest pride. He spent countless weekends driving his grandsons to hockey, teaching them invaluable life lessons along the way. He found great joy and peace at his cottage and looked forward to hunting season at the camp with family and friends. Known as the man who could fix anything, Gary was kind, considerate, and did everything he could for those he loved. He took great pride in passing his skills and knowledge along to his grandsons and great-grandsons, and he was happiest when surrounded by his family. His quiet strength, his reassuring guidance, and his unconditional support will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind a lasting legacy in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will continue to build upon the lessons and skills he so patiently taught them. Gary will be sadly missed by his wife, the former Dorothy Fisher, Springhill; son in law Todd MacPhee (Theresa), grandsons, Justus (Sarah), Jerico, and Jaeden; great-grandsons, Asher and Atlas, and his brother Norman. Bedford, NS April 30, 1932 - July 31, 2025 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Janet "Colina" (Coline) LeBlanc on July 31, 2025, at the age of 93, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Formerly of St. Andrews, Antigonish County, Coline brought warmth, kindness and quiet strength to all who knew her. After moving to Halifax as a young woman, she met her husband, Victor LeBlanc. They attended St Thomas Aquinas church and became members of the Aquinas Club where they made friends and enjoyed many activities including bowling, and dances, and variety shows. They were later married in this church. They built a life together and welcomed three children. Coline worked for the Archdiocese of Halifax until her retirement in 1994. Her deep faith was an anchor throughout her life and she was a devoted member of Saint John Vianney parish for many years, after building their family home and moving to Lower Sackville. She cherished her times camping with family and friends in the earlier years, travelling south on occasion and touring around on Vic's Honda Gold Wing motorcycle. She also enjoyed socializing with great friends, either sharing a meal, a glass of wine, or a game or two of cards. She enjoyed family reunions in Little Brook and St. Andrews. She challenged herself with cryptoquote and lexicon puzzles, loved music and dancing (especially Irish), and cherished sleepovers with her grandkids and later also cheering them on at their sports events. She could be spotted daily at Tim Hortons sipping on a cafe mocha and chatting with her special people. Coline will be deeply missed by her daughters, Lisa (Marc) and Janice; her beloved grandchildren, Amy (Mike), Jeffrey, Justin, and Andrew and her precious great grandchildren, Grace and Mason. She will also be remembered by her sisters-in-law, Shirley and Connie MacEachern, as well as her brother and sister-in law, Guy and Jeannette LeBlanc, and many dear nieces and nephews and life-long friends. In addition to her parents, Joseph and Annie MacEachern, she was pre-deceased by her loving husband, Victor and her dear son, Paul. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, pre-deceased by her siblings; sister, Isabel (Thomas); brothers, Colie (Heather), Bernie, Donald (Mary), Alex, Vince( Isabel), and John Angus, and her son-in-law, Mike. And many other sisters and brothers-in-law and nephews and nieces which she held very dear. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of Sandpiper Hills at Northwood Ivany Place for their dedicated care of mom since 2020. Also, the Palliative Care unit on 7A Victoria General Hospital for their compassion and support in her last few days. A funeral mass will be held at St. John Vianney parish on August 19, 2025 at 11am with a reception to follow in the parish hall. Whitney Pier, NS August 12, 1959 It is with very heavy hearts that we, the family of Kenneth Wayne Dunn, born August 12, 1959, announce his untimely passing with his family by his side and in the hearts of those that couldn’t be here with him in the end, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Kenny was the son of the late Phillip and Blanch (Rowe) Dunn of Whitney Pier. Growing up in Whitney Pier in the 60’s and 70’s Kenny would have been known to many for his rough and tough exterior but to those who knew him best knew him for his kindness and willingness to help in any way he could, that’s not to say he wouldn’t kick someone in the arse if they needed it or told them how it was, even if they weren’t asking for his opinion. Kenny met his ‘sweetheart’ Gail at a very young age and together they spent the last 50 years creating their beautiful family. Kenny spent many years volunteering at events and coaching many of his children’s sports whether it be hockey or soccer creating memories to last a lifetime, not only for his children but to their teammates as well. To this day, coach Kenny is talked about at any get togethers or gatherings with great memories from the kids spanning across many generations- through fond memories and stories it was clear the impact he had on so many and the respect he gained from those he coached and guided along the way. Kenny’s coaching style, lets face it would not be acceptable today but the reminiscing from the young kids he coached to the now adults proved he was an incredible and unforgettable role mode. Kenny had a laugh like no other and quite a unique sense of fashion- not caring if he ever matched or followed any trends. Most recently Kenny has been creating these same types of memories with his grandchildren, specifically at their sporting events- Papa didn’t miss a hockey, basketball or soccer game or tryout and didn’t mind telling a coach or ref when they weren’t doing things right, sometimes landing him a spot outside. Kenny spent many years working at the Steel Plant in the carpentry shop as one of the youngest Steel workers until its closure. Kenny would then spend the remainder of his working days building, fixing or replacing just about anything or everything he could to provide for his family and a proud member of LUINA local 1115. Kenny is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Gail (MacNeil) who over the past seven weeks has shown us all what true love really is; their three amazing children, Chris (Karrie MacLeod) and their boys, Jacob and Joshua, Sydney, Robert (Krista MacIntyre) and their two daughters, Hannah and Clara, Pembrook Ont., and Tasha (Curt MacKenzie) and their children, Malcom, his newest sweetheart Stevie Lynn and baby Dunn-MacKenzie on the way, Beaver Cove; two bonus granddaughters, Kori Lund and Breanna French; brother, Philly (Susan) and their children, Nicole and Steven; brother-in-law, Brian ( Sharon) MacNeil; sister-in-law, Carol (Wayne) and Karen (Brian) Besso; as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and close friends. Besides his parents, Kenny was predeceased by his sister Charmaine; sisters-in-law, Valerie and Darlene; mother and father in-law, John, Viola MacNeil and nephew, Terry. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Pier Community Funeral Home. In Respect to his wishes as an organ donor he is now giving the gift of sight to others. Amherst, NS March 16, 1945 - July 29, 2025 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Marjorie Ann Wolfe. Marjorie passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at Northumberland Hall in Amherst, NS. Daughter of Donald and Eileen Mitchell, Marjorie was born March 16, 1945 and grew up in Pugwash and Williamsdale along with her brother Robert (Bob), and sister Barbara. After meeting the love of her life, Ralph, she married and started her own family having three children, Donald (Donnie), Patricia (Patti) and Amy. Living in Amherst, then Nappan for almost 60 years, she made many friends in the community through 4H, being active in the church, and crafting. After nursing school, Marjorie raised her children, then continued her career as a dedicated CNA at the Amherst Regional Hospital until her retirement.  She was a longtime 4H leader and supporter, traveled uncountable weekends to cheer on Donnie as a hockey goalie and Patti and Amy at many horse shows.  She always attended their various sporting events throughout the early years and spent summers at the cottage in Pugwash with her immediate and extended Mitchell family.   She enjoyed embroidery, sewing, scrap booking, many crafts, tole painting and art which she loved to share with family and friends.  She loved to garden vegetables and flowers, making pickles and homemade jam, cooking and baking. A caring and compassionate lady, what gave her the most joy was caring for and spending time with her family. Marjorie was able to travel with Ralph before and after retirement, spending most of the summer months at their trailer by the beach. Marjorie was predeceased by her parents Donald and Eileen Mitchell and sister, Barbara Maxwell.  She will be sadly missed by her ever-caring husband Ralph, as well as son Donnie (Annette) Wolfe and daughters Patti (Greg) Hoeg and Amy (Rob) Rayworth; her grandchildren Jonathon (Sam) Wolfe, Kristen (Matt Gould) Wolfe, and Nick Wolfe; great grandchild Logan; her brother Bob (Ruth Ann) Mitchell, nieces Susan (Jamie) Pitt and Cathy (Matt) Creamer her brother-in-law Reade (Eva) Maxwell, nephews James (Darlene) Maxwell, John (Chrissy) Maxwell, Arnold Maxwell, niece Brenda (Mark) Carter; several great nieces and nephews; cousins and extended family and friends.
